In this study, Arthrobacter luteolus, isolated from rare earth environment of Chavara (Quilon district, Kerala, India), were found to produce catechol-type siderophores. The bacterial strain accumulated rare earth elements such as samarium and scandium. The siderophores may play a role in the accumulation of rare earth elements. Catecholate siderophore and low-molecular-weight organic acids were found to be present in experiments with Arthrobacter luteolus. The influence of siderophore on the accumulation of rare earth elements by bacteria has been extensively discussed.

Structural and luminescent properties of a Cr/Sm doped GdAlO orthorhombic perovskite for solid-state lighting applications.

RSC Adv

January 2025

Departamento de Física Aplicada, Facultade de Óptica e Optometríae Instituto de Materiais (iMATUS) Campus Vida, Universidade de Santiago de Compostela (USC) 15782 Galicia Spain.

The Cr and Sm doped GdAlO perovskite with formula GdSmAlCrO, was synthesized a solid-state reaction method, and its structure, morphology, and photoluminescence properties were thoroughly investigated. The compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group, with Cr transition-metal ions substituting Al in the octahedral symmetry site, and Sm lanthanide (rare-earth) ions occupying the tetrahedral site. The material's morphology and chemical composition homogeneity were evaluated through Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray analysis.

Global microbial community biodiversity increases with antimicrobial toxin abundance of rare taxa.

State Key Laboratory of Microbial Technology, Institute of Microbial Technology, Shandong University, Qingdao 266237, China.

One of the central questions in microbial ecology is how to explain the high biodiversity of communities. A large number of rare taxa in the community have not been excluded by abundant taxa with competitive advantages, a contradiction known as the biodiversity paradox. Recently, increasing evidence has revealed the central importance of antimicrobial toxins as crucial weapons of antagonism in microbial survival.

In this work, using first-principles calculations, we predict a promising class of two-dimensional ferromagnetic semiconductors, namely Janus PrXY (X ≠ Y = Cl, Br, I) monolayers. Through first-principles calculations, we found that PrXY monolayers have excellent dynamic and thermal stability, and their band structures, influenced by magnetic exchange and spin-orbital coupling, exhibit significant valley polarization. Between and - valleys, the Berry curvature values are opposite to each other, resulting in the anomalous valley Hall effect.

Convergent and parallel evolution occur more frequently than previously thought. Here, we focus on the evolutionary adaptations of angiosperms to sub-zero temperatures. We begin by introducing the research history of convergent and parallel evolution, defining all independent similarities as convergent evolution.

Biodegradable plastics are increasingly utilized in packaging, driven by green chemistry and environmental responsibility. Among them, poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) stands out due to its biodegradability and biocompatibility. However, its limited gas permeability and selectivity hinder its application in produce preservation.
