Ion-imprinted polymer beads are prepared for the first time by inverse suspension polymerization in mineral oil using nickel(II) as the template ion. As water is not used as the continuous phase, this new route of synthesis avoids the risk that the ion template leaves the suspension for the aqueous phase. The leaching of nickel from the resin beads is very good due to the large porosity of the polymer beads. The ratio between the ligand and the crosslinker has been increased leading to higher adsorption capacities. Comparing these values with those of the non-imprinted polymers and studying the effect of some interfering ions proves that an optimum can be found for the ratio ligand/crosslinker.

To improve the characteristics of traditional model predictive control (MPC) semi-active suspension that cannot achieve the optimal suspension control effect under different conditions, a variable horizon model predictive control (VHMPC) method is devised for magnetorheological semi-active suspension with air springs. Mathematical models are established for the magnetorheological dampers and air springs. Based on the improved hyperbolic tangent model, a forward model is established for the magnetorheological damper.

Background: One in 5 females will have surgery to treat pelvic organ prolapse in their lifetime. Uterine-preserving surgery involving suspension of the uterus is an increasingly popular alternative to the traditional use of hysterectomy with vaginal vault suspension to treat pelvic organ prolapse; however, comparative evidence with native tissue repairs remains limited in scope and quality.
Objective: To compare 1-year outcomes between hysterectomy-based and uterine-preserving native tissue prolapse surgeries performed through minimally invasive approaches.

The structure, thermodynamics, and slow activated dynamics of the equilibrated metastable regime of glass-forming fluids remain a poorly understood problem of high theoretical and experimental interest. We apply a highly accurate microscopic equilibrium liquid state integral equation theory, in conjunction with naïve mode coupling theory of particle localization, to study in a unified manner the structural correlations, thermodynamic properties, and dynamic elastic shear modulus in deeply metastable hard sphere fluids. Distinctive behaviors are predicted including divergent inverse critical power laws for the contact value of the pair correlation function, pressure, and inverse dimensionless compressibility, and a splitting of the second peak and large suppression of interstitial configurations of the pair correlation function.

The antimicrobial peptide LL-37 is a promising alternative to conventional antibiotics to combat bacteria in suspension and biofilms. Its self-assembly with polar lipids is suggested to improve its potential for therapeutic applications with higher stability against degradation and bioavailability. This study investigates the self-assembly of LL-37 with glyceryl monooleate (GMO), establishing the link between colloidal structure and antimicrobial activity.
