Background: Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) is a rare but serious complication of pediatric scoliosis surgery; sparse current evidence warrants more information on causality and prevention. This systematic review sought to identify incidence of DIC in pediatric patients during or shortly after corrective scoliosis surgery and identify any predictive factors for DIC.
Methods: Medline/PubMed, EMBASE, and Ovid databases were systematically reviewed through July 2017 to identify pediatric patients with DIC in the setting of scoliosis surgery.

The authors have designed a new method of instrumentation aimed at obtaining surgical fixation of the scoliotic curve without any postoperative external immobilisation. It is particularly strong and rigid and allows adequate reduction of the curve. This technique avoids the sublaminar space and thus prevents excessive blood loss and diminishes the danger of cord damage.

Background: Since the time of Paul Harrington numerous implants have been introduced for correction of scoliosis, but none are ideal. Newer devices are very expensive, and in our country some patients cannot afford them.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the results of the Harrington rod (HR) device and the newer Cotrel-Dubousset (CD) device in treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS).

Background Context: Favorable clinical outcomes of surgical treatment with Cotrel-Dubousset instrumentation (CDI) or instrumentations that follow the principles of CDI, for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) have been reported. However, there are few studies concerning the results with rods of different sizes.
Purpose: To find out whether the rod size affects the surgical results for AIS.
