The use of functional jaw orthopedics, at the correct time during growth, can ultimately result in malocclusion patients achieving a broad beautiful smile, an excellent functional occlusion, a full face with a beautiful jaw line and lateral profile. Following is a case report of a young growing individual with mandibular retrognathia. Treatment was planned in two stages with the use of twin block during the first phase for correction of skeletal malocclusion and forward positioning of the mandible, followed by the second phase of fixed pre-adjusted edgewise orthodontic appliance for camouflaging the remaining skeletal discrepancy and achieving a stable harmonious occlusion.

Although the highlands of East Africa lack the geo-ecological landmarks of Rift Valley fever (RVF) disease hotspots to participate in cyclic RVF epidemics, they have recently reported growing numbers of small RVF clusters. Here, we investigated whether RVF cycling occurred among livestock and humans in the central highlands of Kenya during inter-epidemic periods. A 2-year prospective hospital-based study among febrile patients (March 2022-February 2024) in Murang'a County of Kenya was followed by a cross-sectional human-animal survey.

Additive manufacturing is an attractive technology due to its versatility in producing parts with diverse properties from a single material. However, the process often generates plastic waste, particularly from failed prints, making sustainability a growing concern. Recycling this waste material presents a potential solution for reducing environmental impact while creating new, functional parts.

: The increased prevalence of antibiotic resistance among Gram-negative bacteria presents a severe public health challenge, leading to increased mortality rates, prolonged hospital stays, and higher medical costs. In Greece, the issue of multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria is particularly alarming, exacerbated by overuse of antibiotics and inadequate infection control measures. This study aimed to detect the prevalence of extensively drug-resistant (XDR) Gram-negative bacteria in a tertiary hospital in Western Greece over the last eight years from 2016 to 2023.

The development of new antibiotics with unique mechanisms of action is paramount to combating the growing threat of antibiotic resistance. Recently, based on inspiration from natural products, an asymmetrical polyacetylene core structure was examined for its bioactivity and found to have differential specificity for different bacterial species based on the substituents around the conjugated alkyne. This research further probes the structural requirements for bioactivity through a systematic synthesis and investigation of new compounds with variable carbon chain length, alkynyl subunits, and alcohol substitution.

Owing to the vital role played by dentists in patient education and due to the growing popularity of e-cigarette use among the younger population, this cross-sectional study aimed to assess the use, knowledge, beliefs, and attitudes toward e-cigarettes among dental students. A cross-sectional questionnaire was given between March and June of 2024 to undergraduate dental students in the Faculty of Dentistry at the Arab American University in Palestine. A 32-item questionnaire with five sections, namely demographics, smoking habits, knowledge, beliefs and attitude, and education about e-cigarettes was sent to all appropriate participants (N = 1050).
