Esterification of oleic acid with ethanol catalyzed by organophosphonic acid-functionalized silica SG-T-P was optimized using response surface methodology (RSM). The interactive effect of catalyst to FFA weight ratio and molar ratio of alcohol to acid were more significant than that of reaction temperature. The optimum values for maximum conversion ratio obtained by a Box-Behnken center-united design reached 77.02±0.62% when the reaction was carried out at 112°C for 10h with a molar ratio of alcohol to oleic acid of 8.8:1 and a content of 14.5wt.% triethylenetetramine bis(methylene phosphonic acid)- functionalized silica catalyst SG-T-P. The research results show that SG-T-P is a potential catalyst for biodiesel production that can adsorb water from the reaction mixture at the same time.

Daunorubicin (DNR) is an anthracycline antibiotic originating from soil-dwelling actinobacteria extensively used to treat malignant tumors. Over the decades, extensive attempts were made to enhance the production of anthracyclines by introducing genetic modifications and mutations in combination with media optimization, but the target production levels remain comparatively low. Developing an appropriate culture medium to maximize the yield of DNR and preventing autotoxicity for the producing organism remains a challenge.

Hydrophobization could improve the moisture resistance of biopolymer-based materials, depending on the methods and materials used, providing benefits for packaging applications. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of increasing concentrations (0-2.0%) of candelilla wax (CW) and oleic acid (OA) on the structural and physicochemical properties, including water affinity, of glycerol-plasticized pea protein isolate (PPI) films.

The house cricket, (Linnaeus), is often used as a food source for the maintenance of imported fire ants under laboratory rearing. It was found that both red imported fire ants, Buren, and black imported fire ants, Forel, consumed most of the soft tissues of female crickets, but avoided their eggs by disposing of them on refuse piles. Bioassays using freshly collected cricket eggs showed that ants first retrieved eggs into their nests and then discarded them onto the refuse piles.

This review provides an overview of the main vegetable oils of different botanical origin and composition that can be used for frying worldwide (olive and extra-virgin olive oil, high-oleic sunflower oil, rapeseed oil, peanut oil, rice bran oil, sunflower oil, corn oil, soybean oil, cottonseed oil, palm oil, palm kernel oil and coconut oil) and their degradation during this process. It is well known that during this culinary technique, oil's major and minor components degrade throughout different reactions, mainly thermoxidation, polymerization and, to a lesser extent, hydrolysis. If severe high temperatures are employed, isomerization to fatty acyl chains and cyclization are also possible.

Breast milk is a rich source of fatty acids (FAs) while being irreplaceable for the health and development of an infant. Herein, we present a fast and simple method for the direct detection and quantification of 37 free FAs (FFAs) in breast milk samples, avoiding any derivatization step, and a study on the % variation of FA contents in samples collected from the same mother within five consecutive days. The average breakdown of FAs was 60.
