Peripheral neuropathy: from guidelines to clinical practise.

Curr Opin Oncol

January 2025

Department of Hematology, Oncology and Palliative Medicine, Ernst von Bergmann Hospital Potsdam, Potsdam.

Purpose Of Review: Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a substantial adverse effect of anticancer therapy. No effective preventive strategies are established in clinical routine, although some forms of cryotherapy or compression therapy seem to be promising. CIPN is difficult to grade objectively and has mostly relied on a clinician- or patient-based rating that is subjective and not easily reproducible.

QuanFormer: A Transformer-Based Precise Peak Detection and Quantification Tool in LC-MS-Based Metabolomics.

In metabolomic analysis based on liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry, detecting and quantifying intricate objects is a massive job. Current peak picking methods still cause high rates of incorrectly picked peaks to influence the reliability and reproducibility of results. To address these challenges, we developed QuanFormer, a deep learning method based on object detection designed to accurately quantify peak signals.

Tau exhibits change in both spatial extent and density of pathology along the Alzheimer's disease (AD) spectrum with each aspect contributing to the overall burden of pathological tau. Nevertheless, studies using Tau PET have measured either magnitude using standardized uptake value ratios (SUVRs) or extent using number of Tau+ regions. We hypothesized that combining these two dimensions into a single measure of Magnitude and eXtent, Tau-MaX, would provide improved quantification of global tau burden as well as allowing for a region-agnostic measure of global tau burden that does not require a pre-specified region of interest (ROI) or meta-ROI.

Significance: Developments of anti-gametocyte drugs have been delayed due to insufficient understanding of gametocyte biology. We report a systematic workflow of data processing algorithms to quantify changes in the absorption spectrum and cell morphology of single malaria-infected erythrocytes. These changes may serve as biomarkers instrumental for the future development of antimalarial strategies, especially for anti-gametocyte drug design and testing.

Purpose: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) stage is defined by the visual appearance of the vascular-avascular border, which reflects a spectrum of pathologic neurovascular tissue (NVT). Previous work demonstrated that the thickness of the ridge lesion, measured using OCT, corresponds to higher clinical diagnosis of stage. This study evaluates whether the volume of anomalous NVT (ANVTV), defined as abnormal tissue protruding from the regular contour of the retina, can be measured automatically using deep learning to develop quantitative OCT-based biomarkers in ROP.
