This proposal presents a proof of concept for the use of pulmonary flow restrictors (PFRs) based on MVP™-devices, drawing from clinical experience, and explores their potential role in the management of newborns with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), other complex left heart lesions, and infants with end-stage dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). At this early stage of age, manually adjusted PFRs can be tailored to patient's size and hemodynamic needs. Although currently used off-label, PFRs have substantial potential to improve outcomes in these vulnerable patient populations.

Case Presentation: We present the case of a sixty-four-year-old patient with no prior medical history who was admitted to the intensive care unit with obstructive shock secondary to a right heart mass and pulmonary embolism.

Background: Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1RA) treatment reduces cardiovascular events in type 2 diabetes. Yet, the impact of GLP-1RA treatment before ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) on long-term prognosis in patients with type 2 diabetes remains unclear. In patients with STEMI and type 2 diabetes, we aimed to investigate the association between long-term prognosis and GLP-1RA treatment before STEMI.

With the rising prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and obesity, several previously under-recognised complications associated with T2DM are becoming more evident. The most common of these emerging complications are metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), cancer, dementia, sarcopenia, and frailty, as well as other conditions involving the lung, heart, and intestinal tract. Likely causative factors are chronic inflammation and insulin resistance, whereas blood glucose levels appear to play a lesser role.
