Introduction: Schwannomas are rare tumors and are exceptionally retroperitoneal. In the event of clinical signs or uncertainty in the diagnosis, their removal is justified. A risk of neoplastic transformation exists.
Patients And Methods: Three patients had a retroperitoneal schwannoma located next to or under the sacral promontory. A double approach using an initial retroperitoneoscopy and an iliac abdominal incision had been decided preoperatively. This approach has not been described previously in the medical literature.
Results: The double approach enabled the complete removal of tumors in all patients. The iliac incision, described within, enabled the removal of the tumors despite major attachments and difficulties in exposure, due to the tumors' distal situations.
Conclusion: A double approach by retroperitoneoscopy and laparotomy can enable removal of difficult low-seated retroperitoneal schwannomas without increasing intraoperative risk or perioperative morbidity.

Omicron is the comparatively most transmissible and contagious variant of severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). We conducted a seroprevalence study from March 1-3, 2022, to investigate the seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies among individuals aged 18 years and older after the Omicron outbreak. The seroprevalence of anti-receptor binding domain (RBD) antibodies was found to be 96.

The tumor immune microenvironment (TiME) of human central nervous system (CNS) tumors remains to be comprehensively deciphered. Here, we employed flow cytometry and RNA sequencing analysis for a deep data-driven dissection of a diverse TiME and to uncover noncanonical immune cell types in human CNS tumors by using seven tumors from five patients. Myeloid subsets comprised classical microglia, monocyte-derived macrophages, neutrophils, and two noncanonical myeloid subsets: CD3 myeloids and CD19 myeloids.

Background: Progranulin (PGRN) haploinsufficiency is a major risk factor for frontotemporal lobar degeneration with TDP-43 pathology (FTLD-GRN). Multiple therapeutic strategies are in clinical development to restore PGRN levels in the CNS, including gene therapy. However, a limitation of current gene therapy approaches aimed to alleviate FTLD-associated pathologies may be their inefficient brain exposure and biodistribution.

Background: Alzheimer's Disease (AD) incidence is almost double in female than male, suggesting sex-specific AD risk genes remain unknown.
Method: We designed a statistical physics approach that exploits freely available but massive evolutionary and phylogenetic coupling data on sequence variation and speciation. These couplings lead to quantifiable values for the selection pressure exerted on the genes within a population.
Historically, screening for incidence of AD-related MCI or conversion from MCI to AD dementia has relied on cognitive, activities of daily living, and brain imaging measures. Limitations of this diagnostic approach include dependency on education and language, time-consuming and costly measures, and long-term monitoring. Emerging studies suggest that non-tremor motor dysfunction in dementias is known to be highly associated with AD biomarkers, with signs of cognitive decline visible in gait and hand movement at various stages of the illness.
