Objective: To explore the expression patterns of matrix metalloproteinase1 (MMP-1) in colon carcinoma and evaluate its clinical significance.
Methods: The expression of MMP-1 was detected by SP immunohistochemical method. The tissue microarray samples of 620 colon carcinoma patients were collected and the clinical data reviewed.
Results: The positive expression rate of MMP-1 in cancer tissue was higher than that of normal tissue [72.5% (421/581) vs 30.8% (179/581), P = 0.0001]. And the difference was statistically significant (P = 0.0001). The positive rate in stages I and II [77.6% (235/303)] were higher than stages III and IV [66.9% (186/278), P = 0.0040], the former two stages showed a poor prognosis while the latter two stages a fair prognosis. The results of COX regression showed that a lower expression of MMP-1 (HR: 1.042, 95%CI: 0.770 - 1.410, P = 0.0001), tumor type (HR: 0.966, 95%CI: 0.571 - 1.633, P = 0.0150), local infiltration (HR: 0.576, 95%CI: 0.413 - 0.805, P = 0.0010) and infiltration of bowel wall (HR: 0.337, 95%CI: 0.197 - 0.575, P = 0.0001) were significant predictors of colon carcinoma.
Conclusion: As an independent prognostic factor of colon carcinoma, the expression of MMP-1 in cancer tissue has different prognostic implications according to various stages.

Disrupting the interaction between matrix metalloproteinase-7 (MMP-7) and syndecan-2 (SDC-2) can yield anticancer effects in colon cancer cells. Here, a single-chain variable fragment (scFv) targeting the pro-domain of MMP-7 was generated as a potential candidate anticancer agent. Among the generated scFvs, those designated 1B7 and 1C3 showed the strongest abilities to inhibit the ability of MMP-7 pro-domain to directly interact with SDC-2 in vitro and decrease the cancer activities of human HT29 colon adenocarcinoma cells.

Betel quid contains two major ingredients; Areca catechu and Piper betel, often consumed with slaked lime, tobacco, certain flavouring agents, colouring agents, herbs, and spices according to personal preferences. The areca nut alkaloids (arecoline, arecaidine, guvacine, and guvacoline), and tobacco alkaloids (nicotine, nor-nicotine) undergo nitrosation during chewing in the oral cavity with the presence of nitrite and thiocyanate and endogenously. Among the nitrosation products generated areca nut-derived nitrosamine (ADNA): 3-(methylnitrosamino) Propionitrile (MNPN) and the two tobacco-specific nitrosamines (TSNAs); N'-nitrosonornicotine (NNN) and 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone) (NNK) are considered Group 1 human carcinogens.

Objective: Colorectal cancer (CRC) surgeries can be performed using either laparoscopic or open laparotomy approaches. However, the long-term outcomes based on tumor location and age remain unclear. This study compared the long-term outcomes of laparoscopic and laparotomy surgeries in patients with CRC, focusing on tumor location and age to identify suitable subgroups and determine an optimal cut-off age.

Background: Colorectal metastasis from primary breast cancer is rare and presents a challenge for diagnosis and treatment.
Aim: To report two cases of colorectal metastasis from a primary invasive lobular breast carcinoma (ILBC) with different presentations while discussing the mode of diagnosis, immunohistochemistry (IHC), course of treatment, and response.
Case 1: A 47-year-old female, with a known case of bilateral invasive lobular breast cancer, was diagnosed in 2015 and staged as p Tx N3 M0.

Background: CD3 bispecific antibody (CD3 bsAb) therapy has become an established treatment modality for some cancer types and exploits endogenous T cells irrespective of their specificity. However, durable clinical responses are hampered by immune escape through loss of tumor target antigen expression. Induction of long-lasting tumor-specific immunity might therefore improve therapeutic efficacy, but has not been studied in detail yet for CD3 bsAbs.
