Chiral hexanuclear ferric wheels.

The homochiral iron(III) wheels [Fe(6){(S)-pedea}(6)Cl(6)] and [Fe(6){(R)-pedea)}(6)Cl(6)] [(R)- and (S)-2; pedea = phenylethylaminodiethoxide] exhibit high optical activities and antiferromagnetic exchange. These homochiral products react with each other, producing the centrosymmetric, crystallographically characterized [Fe(6){(S)-pedea}(3){(R)-pedea}(3)Cl(6)] diastereomer [(RSRSRS)-2]. (1)H NMR and UV-vis studies indicate that exchange processes are slow in both homo- and heterochiral systems but that, upon combination, the reaction between (R)- and (S)-2 occurs quickly.

Incorporation of amino acid capping molecules (alanine (Ala), methionine (Met), phenylalanine (Phe), tryptophan (Trp), tyrosine (Tyr), and valine (Val)) in their zwitterionic form into archetypal [Zr(μ-O)(μ-OH)] clusters creates supramolecular frameworks in which the assembly of these highly charged discrete units with chloride counterions provides a unique combination of porosity, chirality, and proton conductivity. The supramolecular frameworks assembled from these cluster entities (i.e.

Hyperconjugative aromaticity (HA) frequently appears in metalla-aromatics, but its effect on photophysical properties remains unexplored to date. Herein, we reveal two different HA scenarios in nearly isostructural triaurated indolium and benzofuranylium compounds. The biased HAs show a discernible effect on the spatial arrangement of metal atoms and thus tailor metal parentage in frontier orbitals and the HOMO-LUMO energy gap.

Chiral ZnLn Hexanuclear Clusters of an Achiral Flexible Ligand.

Multifunctional single-molecule magnets (SMMs) have sparked great interest, but chiral SMMs obtained via spontaneous resolution are rarely reported. We synthesized a series of chiral trinuclear hepta-coordinate lanthanide complexes [ZnLn] ( for Dy, for Tb, for Gd, and for DyY) using the achiral flexible ligand HL (2,2'-[1,2-ethanediylbis[(ethylimino)methylene]]bis[3,5-dimethylphenol]). The complexes crystallize in the chiral 6 group space, and two enantiomers of different chirality are spontaneously resolved.

Chiral metal nanoclusters synthesized by non-chiral ligands are usually in the form of racemates. Thus, resolving racemic compounds continues to be a great challenge. Herein, we report a case of the racemic compound hexanuclear silver cluster (Ag6-Rac) protected by the non-chiral sulfhydryl ligand sodium 1-1,2,3-triazole-5-thiolate (SHTT) and 2,6-bis(diphenylphosphino)pyridine (dpppy).

Although progress has been made in the design and synthesis of chiral lanthanide clusters with pleasing structural connections and special shapes, assembly rules that guide their directional construction are still lacking. We reacted R/S-mandelic acid hydrazide, 2,3-dihydroxybenzaldehyde and DyCl·6HO under solvothermal conditions to obtain two octanuclear chirality clusters R-1 and S-1, which are the enantiomers of each other. R/S-mandelic acid hydrazide and 2,3-dihydroxybenzaldehyde underwent an reaction under "one-pot" conditions to generate a monohydrazone-type organic ligand R/S-mandelic acid hydrazide-2,3-dihydroxybenzaldehyde hydrazone (R/S-HL).
