The sugar plantation complex in West India was based on forced labour, mostly slaves from Africa. The problem was that this population had to be sustained by a constant stream of new slaves just to maintain their numbers. This demographic imbalance has during generations puzzled scholars and doctors. Modern research, however, shows that the fertility rates were normal. The problem was the infant mortality. The slaves' cultural tradition concerning childbirth had fatal consequences by being transferred to West India, where many newborn slave children died of neonatal tetanus.

Sheeppox and Goatpox are highly contagious transboundary viral diseases of sheep and goats caused by Capripoxvirus, respectively. This study describes the development of indirect ELISA and its serodiagnostic potential as an alternative to the gold standard serum neutralization test (SNT). The homologue of vaccinia virus, ORF 117 (A27L) gene of the Romanian Fenner (RF) strain of Sheeppox virus (SPPV) was used for producing the full-length recombinant A27L (rA27L) protein (∼22 kDa) in a prokaryotic expression system.

Objective: The objective of the study was to estimate the pleiotropic effect of teneligliptin on high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels and some cardiorenal parameters in comparison to glimepiride, both as add-on therapy to metformin.
Methodology: This 12-week open-label, parallel-group, randomized controlled trial was conducted among Indian people with type 2 diabetes mellitus and on metformin monotherapy with poor glycemic control (glycated hemoglobin >7% or 53 mmol/mol). The endpoints were mean change in hs-CRP levels, systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), serum creatinine, blood urea, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), and change in cardiovascular (CV) risk categories from baseline to end of 12 weeks.

Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is one of the leading neurodegenerative diseases that affect the human population. Several hypotheses are in the pipeline to establish the commencement of this disease; however, the amyloid hypothesis is one of the most widely accepted ones. Amyloid plaques are rich in Amyloid Beta (Aβ) proteins, which are found in the brains of Alzheimer's patients.
