In order to understand the spatial distribution, influencing factors, pollution level and sources of heavy metals in black soil profiles in Northeast China, black soil profile samples were collected from five sampling points in Haicheng City, Liaoning Province, with the deepest profile depth of 50m. The contents of heavy metals (As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb and Zn) in soil at different depths were analyzed, and the distribution characteristics and influencing factors of heavy metals in black soil profiles were analyzed. The pollution level of heavy metals in soil was evaluated based on the geo-accumulation index method and enrichment factor method, and the sources of heavy metals in soil were analyzed based on principal component analysis.

Advances in next-generation sequencing technology have enabled the high-throughput profiling of metagenomes and accelerated microbiome studies. Recently, there has been a rise in quantitative studies that aim to decipher the microbiome co-occurrence network and its underlying community structure based on metagenomic sequence data. Uncovering the complex microbiome community structure is essential to understanding the role of the microbiome in disease progression and susceptibility.

Efficient extraction via titanium organic frameworks facilitates in-depth profiling of urinary exosome metabolite fingerprints.

Anal Bioanal Chem

January 2025

Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Zhongshan Hospital, Department of Chemistry, Institutes of Biomedical Sciences, Fudan University, Shanghai, 200032, China.

Urinary exosome metabolite analysis has demonstrated notable advantages in uncovering disease status, yet its potential in decoding the intricacies of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) remains untapped. To address this, a core-shell magnetic titanium organic framework was designed to capture urinary exosomes and assist laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (LDI MS) to decipher the exosomal metabolic profile of ccRCC, with high sensitivity, throughput, and speed. A total of 492 urinary exosome metabolite fingerprints (UEMFs) from 176 samples were extracted for exploring the differences between ccRCC and healthy individuals.

Shifts in fungal communities drive soil profile nutrient cycling during grassland restoration.

mBio

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Soil Erosion and Dryland Farming on the Loess Plateau, Northwest A & F University, Yangling, Shaanxi, China.

Soil microbial diversity and community life strategies are crucial for nutrient cycling during vegetation restoration. Although the changes in topsoil microbial communities during restoration have been extensively studied, the structure, life strategies, and function of microbial communities in the subsoil remain poorly understood, especially regarding their role in nutrient cycling during vegetation restoration. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive investigation of the changes in the soil microbial community, assembly process, life strategies, and nutrient cycling functional genes in soil profiles (0-100 cm) across a 36 year chronosequence (5, 15, 28, and 36 years) of fenced grassland and one grazing grassland on the Loess Plateau of China.
