Patient-specific flanged acetabular components are utilized to treat failed total hip arthroplasties with large acetabular defects. Previous clinical studies from our institution showed that these implants tend to lateralize the acetabular center of rotation. Recursive procedures that allow placing a vocal signal inside another of a similar kind provide a neuro-computational blueprint for syntax and phonology in spoken language and human song. There are, however, no known vocal sequences among nonhuman primates arranged in self-embedded patterns that evince vocal recursion or potential incipient or evolutionary transitional forms thereof, suggesting a neuro-cognitive transformation exclusive to humans. Here, we uncover that wild flanged male orangutan long calls feature rhythmically isochronous call sequences nested within isochronous call sequences, consistent with two hierarchical strata.

In many slowly developing mammal species, males reach sexual maturity well before they develop secondary sexual characteristics. Sexually mature male orangutans have exceptionally long periods of developmental arrest. The two male morphs have been associated with behavioral alternative reproductive tactics, but this interpretation is based on cross-sectional analyses predominantly of Northwest Sumatran populations.

For a wide-flanged composite box girder bridge, the risk of fatigue cracking in the external inclined strut welded joint under the fatigue vehicle load is a problem. The main purposes of this research are to verify the safety of the main bridge of the Linyi Yellow River Bridge, a continuous composite box girder bridge, and to propose suggestions for optimization. In this research, a finite element model of one segment of the bridge was established to investigate the influence surface of the external inclined strut, and, using the nominal stress method, it was confirmed that the fatigue cracking of the welded details of the external inclined strut was risky.

Cyclic loading tests were conducted on three 1/2-scale, half-bay steel gabled frames (SGFs) to investigate their seismic performance. The three specimens with reduced joint stiffness were designed based on the prototype drawing shown in China design guideline 02SG518-1: specimen SV1 with a reduced thickness of the joint end-plate and bolt diameter, specimen SV2 with a reduced number of bolts, and specimen SV3 with a reduced bolt diameter. The load capacity, rotational stiffness, rotational capacity, and ultimate failure mode of specimens SV1, SV2, and SV3 were investigated.
