Background And Objectives: Previous research has demonstrated increased brain amyloid plaque load in individuals with childhood-onset epilepsy in late middle age. However, the trajectory of this process is not yet known. The aim of this study was to determine whether individuals with a history of childhood-onset epilepsy show progressive brain aging in amyloid accumulation in late adulthood (Turku Adult Childhood-Onset Epilepsy study, TACOE).

Anthropometric Trajectories in Children Prior to Development of Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

JAMA Netw Open

January 2025

Center for Molecular Prediction of Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Department of Clinical Medicine, Aalborg University, Copenhagen, Denmark.

Importance: Poor nutrition and growth in childhood have short-term and long-term consequences, so understanding the timing of the onset of an impaired nutritional status is crucial for diagnosing and treating inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) at its earliest stage.

Objective: To assess anthropometric trajectories before a pediatric diagnosis of IBD and growth recovery after diagnosis.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This population-based cohort study included children born in Denmark from January 1, 1997, through December 31, 2015, with weight and length or height measurements at birth and at least 1 length or height and weight measurement at school age based on the Danish Medical Birth Register and the Danish National Child Health Register.

Erythromelalgia is a rare, chronic pain disorder characterized by the triad of intense burning sensation, warmth, and redness, primarily involving the hands and feet, and usually alleviated by cold and worsened by heat. The objective of this scoping review was to: 1) map the existing literature on erythromelalgia in youth, 2) identify knowledge gaps, and 3) inform directions for future research in pediatric erythromelalgia. One hundred and sixty-seven studies reporting 411 cases of childhood-onset erythromelalgia were identified.

Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease mediated by autoreactive T cells. Our studies indicate that CD4 T cells reactive to Hybrid Insulin Peptides (HIPs) play a critical role in T cell-mediated beta-cell destruction. We have shown that HIPs form in human islets between fragments of the C-peptide and cleavage products of secretory granule proteins.

A multispecifier model for subtyping children and adolescents with conduct disorder (CD) has been proposed that, in addition to callous-unemotional (CU) traits, also considers grandiose-manipulative (GM) and daring-impulsive (DI) traits. Yet, concerns have been raised about the potential overlap of these latter two specifiers with existing CD criteria and their limited added value to the prediction of etiologically and clinically relevant correlates. The present study was designed to address these concerns while using data from 286 detained boys with a CD diagnosis (ages 16 to 17 years).
