Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate plasma gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in pregnant women at oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) and the diagnosis of GDM and to explore whether this activity is associated with metabolic parameters.
Method: This prospective control study included 37 women with GDM and 42 women with normal glucose tolerance in pregnancy (control group). In the study group (GDM), blood was taken for analyzing 100 g OGTT from women who have abnormal 50 g glucose challenge test (GCT).
Results: Compared with the controls, the GDM group had significantly higher mean values for serum fasting glucose, insulin, homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), triglyceride and GGT. Within the GDM group, GGT levels were only negatively correlated with high-density lipoprotein (r = -0.41, p = 0.01). GGT was determined to be an independent metabolic parameter for GDM. While performing analyses receiver operational curve analysis, GGT cutoff set was set at 16 IU/L, the sensitivity was calculated as 86%, and specificity was as 37%.
Conclusion: The increase at GGT level is an independent risk factor for GDM and identified as high-risk women for diagnosis of GDM.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a metabolic disorder that arises during pregnancy and heightens the risk of placental dysplasia. Ginsenoside Re (Re) may stabilize insulin and glucagon to regulate glucose levels, which may improve diabetes-associated diseases. This study aims to investigate the mechanism of Re in high glucose (HG)-induced apoptosis of trophoblasts through endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS)-related protein CHOP/GADD153.

Objective: The process of glycolysis from blood collection to centrifugation impacts the diagnosis of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). However, the specific characteristics of the working environment in China and its influence on GDM diagnosis still need to be clarified.
Methods: Firstly, 15 pregnant women were recruited, and six specimens were collected from each in a fasting state.

Aims: This study investigated the association between maternal age and early and late gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).
Methods: In total, 72,270 pregnant women were included in this prospective birth cohort study. Associations between maternal age and early GDM (diagnosed at <24 gestational weeks) and late GDM (diagnosed at ≥24 gestational weeks) were evaluated using a multinomial logistic regression model with possible confounding factors.

Objectives: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is associated with an increased risk of both neonatal and maternal morbidity. The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the frequency of perinatal complications due to GDM in the Department of Neonatology at the Medical University of Wroclaw, Poland, considering the treatment of GDM-diet and physical activity versus insulin therapy. The influence of maternal comorbidities and the COVID-19 pandemic on pregnancy outcomes was assessed.

Maternal amino acid intake and its biological value may influence glucose regulation and insulin sensitivity, impacting the risk of developing gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). This study aimed to evaluate the association between amino acid intake from maternal diet before and during pregnancy and the risk of GDM. This study is part of the ongoing BORN2020 epidemiological Greek cohort.
