Accurate predictions of patient length of stay (LOS) in the hospital can effectively manage hospital resources and increase efficiency of patient care. A study was done to assess emergency medicine physicians' ability of predicting the LOS of patients who enter the hospital through the ER. Results indicate that EM physicians are relatively accurate with their pediatric patients than any other age groups. In addition, as actual hospital LOS increases, the prediction accuracy decreases. Possible reasons may be due increasing medical complications associated with increasing age and this may lead to overall longer stays. Other variables such as the admitted service of the patient are not statistically significant in predicting LOS in this study. Future studies should be done in order to determine other variables that may affect LOS predictions.

Background: Predicting mortality and morbidity poses a significant challenge to physicians, leading to the development of various scoring systems. Among these, the hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte and platelet (HALP) score evaluates a patient's nutritional and immune status. The primary aim of this study was to determine the predictive effect of the HALP score on 30-day and 1-year mortality in elderly patients with proximal femoral fractures (PFFs).

Background: While two-thirds of the 57 million people with dementia worldwide live in low- and middle-income countries, research to inform dementia-related policy in these regions remains scarce. We aimed to increase early dementia diagnosis and the use of standardized cognitive assessment by PCP in primary care settings in Cuba METHOD: We selected 16 Primary care clinics, with an estimated 160-200 providers. Clinics were carefully paired based on a number of providers, population demographics, and baseline rates of cognitive impairment diagnosis before being randomized into two groups: one to receive a targeted intervention and the other to continue with usual care practices.

Method: The procedure consists of bone marrow aspiration, cell separation using an FDA cleared class 2 device, and intravenous and intranasal administration of the stem cell fraction.

Davos Alzheimer's Collaborative, Wayne, PA, USA.
Background: Early symptoms of cognitive impairment are frequently undetected. The Davos Alzheimer's Collaborative System Preparedness (DAC-SP) Early Detection program implemented a digital cognitive assessment (DCA) in primary care and other non-specialty settings to increase the rate of detection of cognitive impairment.
Methods: The DAC-SP Early Detection program was initiated in 2021 in seven healthcare systems across six countries.
Background: With the recent approval of disease modifying therapies (DMT) for early Alzheimer's disease, there is a need for prescribing physicians to accurately communicate expectations of treatment effects to patients and their care partners. To better understand potential challenges and solutions to enhance this communication, physicians were surveyed, after which patients and care partners participated in focus groups.
Method: Step one consisted of an online survey of 100 US-based neurologists, geriatric medicine specialists and Alzheimer's disease specialists to ascertain physician perspectives on meaningful benefits associated with anti-amyloid monoclonal antibody treatment (DMT) over currently available symptomatic treatments.
