This symposium describes collaborative research on neuroergonomics, technology, and cognition being conducted at George Mason University and the US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) as part of the Center of Excellence in Neuroergonomics, Technology, and Cognition (CENTEC). Six presentations describe the latest developments in neuroergonomics research conducted by CENTEC scientists. The individual papers cover studies of: (1) adaptive learning systems; (2) neurobehavioral synchronicity during team performance; (3) genetics and individual differences in decision making; (4) vigilance and mindlessness; (5) interruptions and multi-tasking; and (6) development of a simulation capability that integrates measures across these domains and levels of analysis.

Unlabelled: Tasks with high mental workload often involve higher cognitive functions of the human brain and complex information flow involving multiple brain regions. However, the dynamics of functional connectivity between brain regions during high mental workload have not been well-studied. We use an analysis approach designed to find repeating network states from gamma-band phase locking value networks built from electroencephalograph data collected while participants engaged in tasks with different levels of mental workload.

Brain cancer pose significant life-threats by destructively invading normal brain tissues, causing dysneuria, disability and death, and its therapeutics is limited by underdosage and toxicity lying in conventional drug delivery that relied on passive delivery. The application of nanorobots-based drug delivery systems is an emerging field that holds great potential for brain cancer active targeting and controllable treatment. The ability of nanorobots to encapsulate, transport, and supply therapies directly to the lesion site through blood-brain barriers makes it possible to deliver drugs to hard-to-reach areas.
