Evaluating the evidence for the effectiveness of prevention.

This report reviews a number of issues that should be considered in evaluating the evidence for the effectiveness of primary and secondary prevention. In evaluating primary prevention, changes in disease incidence are the ideal index but mortality may also be a useful surrogate in certain cases. Both relative risk and attributable risk are valuable concepts in evaluating the benefits of primary prevention. In evaluating screening, the most notable approach to secondary prevention, certain potential biases should be taken into account. These include selection biases due to referral or length-biased sampling, lead time bias, and overdiagnosis bias. An understanding of the methodologic issues involved in evaluating prevention will help ensure the validity of any conclusions drawn regarding the effectiveness of preventive measures and programs.

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate and compare the clinical outcomes of two groups of patients subject to bi-cruciate retaining (BCR) or posterior-stabilized (PS) implants. It was hypothesized that patients treated with BCR prostheses would present higher flexion and better clinical and functional results than those treated with PS implants. This prospective study included thirty-two patients treated for primary knee osteoarthritis and assigned to two matched groups for their demographic characteristics and comorbidities.

To investigate the safety of the tetravalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MPCV-ACYW) in combination with the inactivated poliomyelitis (IPV) vaccine and diphtheria-tetanus-acellular pertussis (DTaP) vaccine for infants aged 3-5 months and provide real-world evidence for the immunization strategy of vaccine combination. From June to October 2023, a total of 600 3-month-old infants were selected and divided into three groups: control group, mono-vaccination group and combined vaccination group.
