Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are carcinogenic compounds resulting from incomplete burning of organic materials. This work describes the successful layer-by-layer fabrication of a novel zinc oxide nanocomposite made of zinc oxide nanoparticles, aniline, sodium dodecyl sulfate, and modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes on a stainless steel wire by electrodeposition. The coating and extraction conditions were screened, optimized, and validated using factorial design and central composite design, respectively.

Regulable crack patterns for the fabrication of high-performance transparent EMI shielding windows.

iScience

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Transient Optics and Photonics, Xi'an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Xi'an, Shaanxi 710119, China.

Crack pattern-based metal grid film is an ideal candidate material for transparent electromagnetic interference shielding optical windows. However, achieving crack patterns with narrow grid spacing, small wire width, and high connectivity remains challenging. Herein, an aqueous acrylic colloidal dispersion was developed as a crack precursor for preparing crack patterns.

Coating Extrusion Characteristics of Thin-Walled Tubes for Catheters Using Thermoplastic Elastomer.

Polymers (Basel)

January 2025

Guangdong Engineering Technology Research Center of Small Household Appliances Innovation Design and Manufacturing, School of Mechanical Engineering, Guangdong Ocean University, Zhanjiang 524088, China.

During the production of medical thin-walled tubes, a thin coating layer is required. This requirement reduces the cross-sectional clearance area of the straight section flow channel formed by the mandrel and the die, leading to excessive pressure of the polymer melt at the shaping section, elevated die pressure, and backflow of the material melt, all of which directly impact the quality of the coating layer. To address these issues, this study conducted a non-isothermal numerical simulation of coating models both with and without a shaping section.

Quaternized Nanofiber-Based Anion-Exchange Chromatography Membrane with Periodic Diagonal Surface Structure for Efficient Protein Separation.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Textile Fiber and Products, Ministry of Education, Hubei International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Base of Intelligent Textile Materials & Application, Wuhan Textile University, Wuhan 430200, China.

Constructing a nanofibrous membrane with high flow rate surface pore structure and high-density ligand chemical structure is a promising strategy to balance the trade-off between high flow rates and high adsorption capacity for protein separation and purification. Herein, a nanofiber-based ion-exchange chromatography membrane with a periodic diagonal surface structure and high ionic strength ligands was fabricated using dispersion cross-linking, wet coating, and template printing with a three-wire diagonal woven mesh. For this membrane, EVOH nanofibers were used as skeleton, glutaraldehyde (GA) as cross-linking agent, and quaternized chitosan (QCS) as binder and functional ligand.

Unlabelled: Thermal spray, in general, is a process that involves forcing a melted substance, such as metal or ceramic in the form of wire or powder, onto the surface of a targeted object to enhance its desired surface properties. In this paper, the melted substance is metal wire generated by an electric arc and forcibly coated on a rotary iron substrate using compressed air. This thermal process is referred to as double-wire arc thermal spray.
