Objective: We examined attorneys' experiences, perceptions, and decisions regarding plea recommendations in child sexual cases.

Hypotheses: We hypothesized that characteristics of the child (age, relationship to alleged perpetrator) and the report (timing of disclosure, consistency across reports) would affect attorneys' perceptions of evidence strength, likelihood of conviction, and plea recommendations.

Method: We collected data from a national sample of actively practicing prosecutors (n = 217) and defense attorneys (n = 251) who had experience with child abuse cases.

Medical education literature regarding assessment is traditionally based on psychometric insights. In psychometry, validity and reliability are essential parameters of assessment. A literature movement originating from the Maastricht school, which is extremely influential in the Netherlands and beyond, argues that the clinical context is too complex for traditional standardized assessment methods, and proposes to optimize the use of expert opinions.

Splenogonadal fusion in female patients is seldom reported. We describe a 6-month-old girl who represents the youngest living female with splenogonadal fusion reported to date. The lesion was diagnosed as an incidental finding during screening abdominal ultrasonography performed for a vulvar infantile hemangioma.
