Over the past few years, a vast amount of research has illuminated the workings of the secretory system of eukaryotic cells. The bulk of this work has been focused on the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, or on mammalian cells. At a superficial level, plants are typical eukaryotes with respect to the operation of the secretory system; however, important differences emerge in the function and appearance of endomembrane organelles. In particular, the plant secretory system has specialized in several ways to support the synthesis of many components of the complex cell wall, and specialized kinds of vacuole have taken on a protein storage role-a role that is intended to support the growing seedling, but has been co-opted to support human life in the seeds of many crop plants. In the past, most research on the plant secretory system has been guided by results in mammalian or fungal systems but recently plants have begun to stand on their own as models for understanding complex trafficking events within the eukaryotic endomembrane system.
In this review, we aim to explore the multifaceted roles of galectins in host defense from a broader perspective, particularly regarding their functions when host integrity is compromised. Numerous comprehensive reviews on galectin functions in immunity have already been published. For researchers new to the field, this wealth of information may create an impression of galectins as proteins involved in a wide array of biological processes.
The Drosophila Ejaculatory duct (ED) is a secretory tissue of the somatic male reproductive system. The ED is involved in the secretion of seminal fluid components and ED-specific antimicrobial peptides that aid in fertility and the female post-mating response. The ED is composed of secretory epithelial cells surrounded by a layer of innervated contractile muscle.

Protein degradation is pivotal for all biochemical aspects of cellular function. In mammalian cells, protein degradation is mediated mainly by the ubiquitin proteasome system (UPS) and the autophagic-lysosomal system (ALS). Over the last two decades, different types of targeted protein degradation approaches have been developed including proteolysis targeting chimeras (PROTACs) and lysosome targeting chimeras (LYTACs), which employ the UPS to degrade intracellular proteins and the ALS to degrade extracellular and membrane proteins respectively.
Unlabelled: Although an established model organism remains comparatively inaccessible to high throughput screens, and alternative bioinformatic approaches still rely on unconnected datasets and outdated algorithms. Here, we report a new approach to consolidating RNA-seq and microarray data based on a systematic exploration of parameters and computational controls, enabling us to infer functional gene associations from their co-expression patterns. To illustrate the power of this approach, we took advantage of new data regarding a previously studied pathway, the biogenesis of a secretory organelle called the mucocyst.
