Gender differences in choosing to enter competitions are one source of unequal labor market outcomes concerning wages and promotions. Given that studying the effects of policy interventions to support women is difficult with field data because of measurement problems and potential lack of control, we evaluated, in a set of controlled laboratory experiments, four interventions: quotas, where one of two winners of a competition must be female; two variants of preferential treatment, where a fixed increment is added to women's performance; and repetition of the competition, where a second competition takes place if no woman is among the winners. Compared with no intervention, all interventions encourage women to enter competitions more often, and performance is at least equally good, both during and after the competition.

The recycling of critical metals from spent lithium-ion batteries represents a significant step towards meeting the enhancing resource requirements in the new energy industry. Nevertheless, achieving effective leaching of metals from the stable metal-oxygen (MO6) structure of spent ternary cathodes and separation of metal products simultaneously still remained a huge challenge towards industrial applications. Herein, a competitive coordination strategy was proposed to design a novel deep eutectic solvent (DESs), which improved both leaching and selective metal recycling capacity even at high solid-liquid ratio (1:10).

The binding affinity of pharmaceutical hydrochlorides onto transition metal oxide nanoparticles (TMONPs) was investigated through a consecutive process of adsorption and desorption. Mexiletine (MEX) was chosen as a model pharmaceutical hydrochloride that bound onto TMONPs' surface through electrostatic interactions and coordination bonding. Response surface methodology was applied for their optimal separation by capillary electrophoresis to achieve accurate quantitation.

Microplastics (MPs) and antibiotics can enter groundwater through the interaction of soil and surface water, and MPs as carriers of antibiotics can promote the migration of antibiotics and thus generate more serious ecological risks. Therefore, this paper used experimental and molecular dynamics (MD) simulation methods to investigate the sorption between four common types of MPs in groundwater, namely polyamide (PA), polystyrene (PS), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and polyethylene (PE), and oxytetracycline (OTC) with high detection rate in groundwater. Additionally, the impact of environmental factors on sorption was examined.

Hydration in Mg solutions is critical in the chemical and biological industries. Researchers have identified a rigid first hydration shell, but the effects of ion-water and hydrogen bonding (HB) interactions beyond the first shell of Mg, especially when ion pairs form at high concentrations, remain controversial.
