A series of triblock copolymers comprising end block of PLLA modified with PCL, and random copolymer of PCL and PTMC as soft segment were synthesized. DSC data show that PCL disrupted the crystallinity of PLLA, making the hard block to be completely amorphous when the PCL content is 50%. Correspondingly, the addition of PCL into PLLA block enhances the elongation of the triblock considerably. With regards to the elasticity, however, creep test results show that adding PCL to PLLA block seems to reduce the "equilibrium" recovery, while cyclic test results shows that the instantaneous recovery increased significantly with more PCL inside PLLA block. It was also observed that the degradation rate of triblock with added PCL inside the PLLA was slower compared to triblock with pure PLLA hard block. Compared to biodegradable polyurethane, these polymers are expected to yield less harmful degradation products, and offer more variables for the manipulation of properties. These polymers are also processable from the melt at temperatures exceeding about 130 °C. We expect to use these polymers in a variety of applications, including stent coatings, fully-degradable stents and atrial septal defect occluders.

The more flexible and faster biodegradation rate of poly(L-lactide)--poly(ethylene glycol)--poly(L-lactide) (PLLA-PEG-PLLA) triblock copolymer makes it a promising bioplastic compared to PLLA. However, finding effective additives for this triblock copolymer remains a research challenge for their wider applications. This work involved the melt-blending of a cerium lactate (Ce-LA) antibacterial agent with a triblock copolymer.

Sustainable cellulose-graft-diblock copolymers (cellulose-graft-polyisoprene-block-polylactide, MCC-g-PI-b-PLLA, MCC was chemically-modified microcrystalline cellulose) were designed and delicately synthesized for the first time by a mild and facile procedure via combining ring-opening polymerization and reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer polymerization techniques, which conquered the difficulties in synthesis due to the distinct chemical properties among the MCC backbone, PI and PLLA blocks. Two separate glass transition temperatures were detected for MCC-g-PI-b-PLLA copolymers by differential scanning calorimetry, indicative of microphase separation, consistent with small-angle X-ray scattering and atomic force microscopy measurements. The α-form crystals of PLLA outer blocks were revealed by wide-angle X-ray diffraction measurement.

Cell metabolism, as the key driver of inflammation, revascularization and even subsequent tissue regeneration, is controlled by and also conversely influenced by signal transduction. Incorporation of cell metabolism into tissue engineering research holds immense potential for in-situ treatment repair and further understanding of the host-biomaterial cues in body response. In this study, an anti-inflammatory waterborne polyurethane scaffold incorporated with poly-l-lactic acid (PLLA) block was served to repair nerve injuries (LAx-WPU).

In this work, we focused on the systematic study of catalysts based on p-block elements from period 5, such as indium(iii), tin(ii), tin(iv) and antimony(iii) acetates, which displayed contrasting performances influenced by the oxidation state of the metal center. Analysis of the obtained oligomers by different techniques, including nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarized optical microscopy (POM) and matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF), revealed the selectivity of each catalyst toward the ROP of l-LA.
