Article Synopsis
  • Accurately determining the mechanical parameters of SiC/SiC composites is essential for designing effective turbine disc structures.
  • A 2D model of these composites was created using CT scanning and machine learning, and their mechanical properties were analyzed through uniaxial tensile tests and genetic algorithms.
  • The study found that simulation results closely matched experimental data, leading to validated finite element models for different turbine disc designs and their damage simulations.

This study explores the potential of using underutilized materials from agricultural and forestry systems, such as rice husk, wheat straw, and wood strands, in developing corrugated core sandwich panels as a structural building material. By leveraging the unique properties of these biobased materials within a corrugated geometry, the research presents a novel approach to enhancing the structural performance of such underutilized biobased materials. These biobased materials were used in different lengths to consider the manufacturing feasibility of corrugated panels and the effect of fiber length on their structural performance.

Department of Biological, Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technologies (STEBICEF), University of Palermo, Viale delle Scienze, 90128 Palermo, Italy.

Molecular hybridization, which consists of the combination of two or more pharmacophores into a single molecule, is an innovative approach in drug design to afford new chemical entities with enhanced biological activity. In the present study, this strategy was pursued to develop a new series of 6,7-dimethoxy-4-piperazinylquinoline-3-carbonitrile derivatives (-) with potential antibiotic activity by combining the quinoline, the piperazinyl, and the benzoylamino moieties, three recurrent frameworks in antimicrobial research. Initial in silico evaluations were conducted on the designed compounds, highlighting favorable ADMET and drug-likeness properties, which were synthesized through a multistep strategy, isolated, and fully characterized.

Background: Peri-implantitis is characterized as a pathological change in the tissues around dental implants. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) provides molecular information from optical phenomena observed by the vibration of molecules, which is used in biological studies to characterize changes and serves as a form of diagnosis.

Aims: this case-control study evaluated the peri-implant disease by using FTIR spectroscopy with attenuated total reflectance in the fingerprint region.

September 2024

Department of Academic, Faculty of Dentistry, Universidad Nacional Federico Villarreal, Lima, Peru, ORCID: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0594-5834.

Objective: To evaluate the shear strength of adhesives based on the type of solvent (ethanol and acetone), aged and light-cured using light-emitting diode (LED) units with different wavelengths. Polywave and monowave LED units were employed for this study.

Materials And Methods: Ninety bovine tooth samples were analyzed using OptiBond Universal adhesive (acetone) and single bond universal adhesive (ethanol).
