Objective: To summarize the technique and therapeutic effect of free posterior tibial artery perforator (PTP) flap for skin defect on the dorsum of hand or foot.

Methods: The lower leg was divided into 6 sections equally from the level of tibial tuberosity to the connection of medial and lateral malleolus. The free PTP flap was designed along the inner edge of tibia within the proximal section 2 and 3. The flap was harvested with 2-3 bundles of the saphenous nerve included. The size of skin defects on the dorsum of hand or foot ranged from 3.0 cm x 7.5 cm to 6.0 cm x 12.0 cm.

Results: From Jan. 2009 to Dec. 2010, 11 cases were treated with free PTP flaps. All the flaps survived completely. The follow-up period ranged from 3 to 10 months. The flaps had good color and texture. Two point discrimination recovered to 7-10 mm, leaving linear scar at the donor site. The appearance and function of the hand or foot was satisfactory.

Conclusions: The free PTP flap is thin with good sensation, leaving less morbidity at donor site. The posterior tibial artery can be reserved. It is an ideal method for skin defect on the dorsum of hand or foot.

Background: Lymphedema represents a frequent cause of disability for patients undergoing oncological treatments and, being a chronic, non-reversible pathology, requires targeted and continuous rehabilitation treatments. To date, the studies available on the use of ultrasound in patients with lymphedema mainly report descriptive data; therefore, with this study, we wanted to describe in a more objective way the typical ultrasound alterations found in these patients, measuring the thickness of the different superficial structures, and defining subcutis echogenicity.

Methods: 14 patients affected by secondary lymphedema of the upper limbs were enrolled in this cross-sectional observational study (12 had breast cancer and 2 with melanoma as their primary diagnosis).

The fast and accurate quantitative detection of camellia oil products is significant for multiple reasons. In this study, rice bran oil and corn oil, whose Raman spectra both hold great similarities with camellia oil, are blended with camellia oil, and the concentration of each composition is predicted by models with varying feature extraction methods and regression algorithms. Back propagation neural network (BPNN), which has been rarely investigated in previous work, is used to construct regression models, the performances of which are compared with models using random forest (RF) and partial least squares regression (PLSR).

The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to present the values of maximal isometric lumbar extensor muscle strength (MILEMS) and lumbar extensor muscle endurance (LEME) in healthy subjects and to study the influence of physiological factors on these parameters. MILEMS using a hand-held dynamometer in three positions (prone, sitting, standing) and LEME using the Biering-Sørensen test were assessed in 115 healthy volunteers. The MILEMS measurements for the specific positions were correlated with each other (Pearson correlation coefficients 0.

The manipulation of top-down interpretation as one's symptomatic body reduces the sense of body ownership.

Sense of body ownership has been studied using rubber hand illusion (RHI) and full-body illusion (FBI). It has recently become clear that consciously interpreting a fake body as one's own in a top-down manner influences these body illusions. Furthermore, a study interestingly found that the influence of top-down interpretation was moderated by the degree of depersonalization, which was a symptom of a lack of sense of body ownership.

CD4 T cell activation induces dramatic changes to cellular metabolism for supporting their growth and differentiation into effector subsets. While the cytokines IL-4, TGF-β and IL-21 promote differentiation into Th9 cells, metabolic factors regulating this process remain poorly understood. To assess the role of lipid metabolism in human Th9 cell differentiation, naïve CD4 T cells were purified from blood of healthy volunteers and cultured in the presence or absence of compounds targeting PPAR-γ, acetyl-CoA-carboxylase 1 (ACC1), and AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) for four days.
