The removed pheochromocytomas of 25 patients aged from 25 to 72 years have been studied. Among them 5 tumors have had bilateral character, 8 pheochromocytomas have been diagnosed as malignant, 4 patients have had metastases. The average size of benign pheochromocytomas has been 4.0 cm, malignant - 4.5 cm. The majority of malignant tumors have had areas with diffusing growth patterns. The results of immunohistochemical study of benign and malignant pheochromocytomas have had small differences. The study of tumor ultrastructure hasn't found out their biological potential.

Most percutaneous vertebroplasty procedures are being performed in order to relieve pain in patients with severe osteoporosis and associated stable fractures of one or more vertebral bodies. In addition, vertebroplasty is also recommended for patients suffering from post-traumatic symptoms associated with vertebral fractures, patients with large angiomas positioned inside the vertebral body, with an increased risk for collapse fracture and also patients presenting with pain associated with vertebral body metastatic disease. On another aspect, it is possible that in isolated cases, an orthopedic surgeon confronted with a vertebra plana presentation will recommend bone cement injection into the vertebral bodies adjacent to the fractured one, in order to have a better and more robust substrate for placement of screws or other fixation devices.

On the Concepts and History of Glioblastoma Multiforme - Morphology, Genetics and Epigenetics.

Folia Med (Plovdiv)

March 2018

Department of General and Clinical Pathology, Forensic Medicine and Deontology, Prof Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov Medical University, Varna, Bulgaria.

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is a grade IV WHO malignant tumor with astrocytic differentiation. As one of the most common clinically diagnosed central nervous system (CNS) oncological entries, there have been a wide variety of historical reports of the description and evolution of ideas regarding these tumors. The first recorded reports of gliomas were given in British scientific reports, by Berns in 1800 and in 1804 by Abernety, with the first comprehensive histomorphological description being given in 1865 by Rudolf Virchow.

E-cadherin, β-catenin and Snail are important molecules involved in cellular adhesion and epithelial-mesenchymal transition. Loss of E-cadherin expression, nuclear relocation of β-catenin and high expression of Snail are connected to tumor progression, rapid cell growth and metastasis. The aim of our study was to analyze the immunohistochemical expression of β-catenin, E-cadherin and Snail, depending on clinico-morphological aspects of the laryngeal squamous cell carcinomas.

The clinic-morphological investigation on the efficacy results while application of the аrgon–plasm coagulation (АPC) in combination with laparoscopy in the treatment of hepatic hemangioma, are presented. The conduction of laparoscopic intervention, using the APC, have promoted the improvement of postoperative rehabilitation in the patients in aspects of subjective (the pain intensity) and clinic-laboratory indices of hepatic function. In accordance to the morphological investigation data, based on hepatic biopsies, more organ-preserving impact of the APC was noted on hepatic parenchyma.
