Tesla valves are widely used in the field of fluid control. To study the hydraulic performance of straight-through Tesla valves in forward and reverse flow, 16 straight-through Tesla valves with diverse blade parameters were designed in this paper, and hydraulic loss tests were carried out in forward and reverse flow under different working conditions. The results show that the hydraulic loss increases with the increasing working flow rate in forward and reverse flow; at the identical flow rate, the reverse loss is higher than the forward loss.

The perception of two (or more) simultaneous musical notes, depending on their pitch interval(s), could be broadly categorized as consonant or dissonant. Previous literature has suggested that musicians and non-musicians adopt different strategies when discerning music intervals: while musicians rely on the frequency ratios between the two fundamental frequencies, such as "perfect fifth" (3:2) as consonant and "tritone" (45:32) as dissonant intervals; non-musicians may rely on the presence of 'roughness' or 'beats', generated by the difference of fundamental frequencies, as the key elements of 'dissonance'. The separate Event-Related Potential (ERP) differences in N1 and P2 along the midline electrodes provided evidence congruent with such 'separate reliances'.

Pure copper is very soft, however, hardening the pure copper with most strengthening mechanisms leads to a significant reduction in electrical conductivity. Grain refinement is a better strengthening mechanism to maintain high enough electrical conductivity. Plastic deformation at room temperature followed by post-annealing is one of the best methods to achieve fine-grained metals and alloys.

Orthoconic antiferroelectric liquid crystals (OAFLCs) represent unique self-organized materials with significant potential for applications in photonic devices due to their sub-microsecond switching times and high optical contrast in electro-optical effects. However, almost all known OALFCs suffer from low chemical stability and short helical pitch values. This paper presents the synthesis and study results of two chiral AFLCs, featuring a four-ring structure in the rigid core and high chemical stability.

Background: The spatial resolution of energy-integrating diagnostic CT scanners is limited by interpixel reflectors on the detector, which optically isolate pixels but create dead space. Because the width of the reflector cannot easily be decreased, fill factor diminishes as resolution increases.

Purpose: We propose loading (or mixing) a high-Z element into the reflectors, causing the reflectors to be X-ray fluorescent.
