Bronchial fistulas occurring either spontaneously in the course of malignant diseases of the chest or following pulmonary resections (lobectomy, pneumonectomy) are rare, but feared complications associated with high morbidity and mortality. In many cases a surgical approach to fistula closure is not possible. Numerous endoscopic procedures for fistula closure have been reported, mostly in the form of isolated case reports with until now no satisfying results. No guidelines or consensus have been established as yet. Since 2006 several cases of successful fistula closure by using Amplatzer Septal Occluders have been reported. Between June and October 2010 five patients with oesophagobronchial or bronchopleural fistulas were successfully treated in our hospitals, using Amplatzer Vascular Plugs II® and 4® (AGA Medical) for fistula closure. These devices were originally developed for transcatheter embolisation procedures in angiology. Three of our patients suffered from bronchial fistulas after lobectomy or pneumonectomy with consecutive empyemas, the other two of bronchooesophageal fistulas caused by carcinomas of the oesophagus.

Background: Crohn's perianal fistulas (CPF) are difficult to manage and often require multiple interventions. This study aimed to assess the preferences of patients and healthcare professionals (HCPs) for attributes of CPF-related procedures/surgeries to better inform CPF management.
Methods: This US cross-sectional, observational study was conducted via a web-enabled questionnaire (October 2021-January 2022) among patients aged 21-89 years with a self-reported physician diagnosis of CPF (with or without CPF-related surgery experience) and HCPs (gastroenterologists and colorectal surgeons who managed ≥3 patients with CPF in the past 12 months).

Aortopulmonary fistulas are a rare complication of aortic root replacements associated with aortic aneurysms. We describe a patient with a sinus of Valsalva pseudoaneurysm associated with a Freestyle root replacement that fistulized to a distal pulmonary valve homograft after having 2 prior aortic and pulmonary valve surgeries. After a failed endovascular closure attempt, he underwent a third operation for repair.

We present a case of a bronchoesophageal fistula after a lobectomy with systematic mediastinal lymphadenectomy for lung adenocarcinoma. A 70-year-old woman was readmitted with postprandial cough, fever, and dysphagia on postoperative day 13. Computed tomography revealed a bronchoesophageal fistula between the left main bronchus and esophagus.

Background: Arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) in kidney transplant recipients are sometimes closed, either as a policy or due to complications. We collected data on the incidence of complications after AVF closure in a national cohort of transplanted patients.
Methods: Patients who received a kidney transplant between 2000 and 2015 and had a functional AVF that was later ligated or extirpated were included.

Background: Bronchopleural fistula (BPF) is a rare and often difficult postoperative complication to manage. This case series describes a bronchoscopic technique using a bone plug for closure of BPFs.
Methods: Six patients at Henry Ford Hospital from 2014 to 2021, who had a postoperative BPF after lung resection with curative intent for non-small cell lung cancer, underwent bronchoscopic placement of a customized bone plug.
