Polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimers and their charged state in deuterium oxide have been investigated with proton pulsed field gradient diffusion nuclear magnetic resonance (PFG-NMR) and small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) techniques. NMR measurements suggest that significant variation of the hydrodynamic radius, calculated by the Stokes-Einstein relation with appropriate surface conditions, is observed upon increasing the molecular protonation. However, a comparative SANS experiment indicates little dependence of the dendrimer global size, in terms of its radius of gyration, on molecular protonation. The inconsistency indicates the necessity of incorporating the effect of molecular interface modification and molecular porosity provided by dressed counterions, when dynamical measurements are used for the determination of the structural characteristics of ionic soft colloids even in dilute suspensions.

[FeFe]-hydrogenases are enzymes that catalyze the redox interconversion of H and H using a six-iron active site, known as the H-cluster, which consists of a structurally unique [2Fe] subcluster linked to a [4Fe-4S] subcluster. A set of enzymes, HydG, HydE, and HydF, are responsible for the biosynthesis of the [2Fe] subcluster. Among them, it is well established that HydG cleaves tyrosine into CO and CN and forms a mononuclear [Fe(II)(Cys)(CO)(CN)] complex.

Brown and beige adipocytes express uncoupling protein-1 (UCP1), which is located in the inner mitochondrial membrane and facilitates the dissipation of excess energy as heat. The activation of thermogenic adipocytes is a potential therapeutic target for treating type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity, and related co-morbidities. Therefore, identifying novel approaches to stimulate the function of these adipocytes is crucial for advancing therapeutic strategies.

Context: This study presents quantum chemical analysis of 14 distinct carbon-based nanostructures (CBN), ranging from simple molecules, like benzene, to more complex structures, such as coronene, which serves as an exemplary graphene-like model. The investigation focuses on elucidating the relationships between molecular orbital (MO) energies, the energy band gaps, electron occupation numbers (eON), electronic conduction, and the compound topologies, seeking to find the one that approaches most of a graphene-like structure for in silico studies. Through detailed examination of molecular properties including chemical hardness and chemical potential, we demonstrate that the electronic exchange between orbitals is directly influenced by the structural topology of the carbon-based nanostructures, as the electron occupation numbers and the molecular orbital energies.

An 83-year-old male presented to our Digestive System Department with a 5-day history of severe gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding and a 14-year history of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) with low platelet levels. Colonoscopy revealed extensive telangiectasias throughout the colon, particularly in the transverse and ascending segments. Standard treatment with proton-pump inhibitors and somatostatin proved ineffective.

The degree of sulfonation (DS) is a key property of sulfonated polymers, as it significantly influences their swelling behaviour, conductivity and mechanical properties. Accurately determining the DS is essential for optimizing these materials for various applications. In this work, the DS of sulfonated poly (ether ether ketone) (SPEEK) was evaluated using a combination of analytical techniques, including titration, back titration, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), Ultra-Violet (UV) and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (H NMR) spectroscopies, Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Rutherford backscattering (RBS) and particle induced X-ray emission (PIXE) analysis.
