We propose hydrogenated amorphous silicon nanowires as a platform for nonlinear optics in the telecommunication wavelength range. Extraction of the nonlinear parameter of these photonic nanowires reveals a figure of merit larger than 2. It is observed that the nonlinear optical properties of these waveguides degrade with time, but that this degradation can be reversed by annealing the samples. A four wave mixing conversion efficiency of + 12 dB is demonstrated in a 320 Gbit/s serial optical waveform data sampling experiment in a 4 mm long photonic nanowire.

This study explores the low-temperature synthesis of graphene using plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD), emphasizing the optimization of process parameters to achieve controlled growth of pristine and hydrogenated graphene. Graphene films were synthesized at temperatures ranging from 700 °C to as low as 400 °C by varying methane (25-100 sccm) and hydrogen (25-100 sccm) gas flow rates under 10-20 mBar pressures. Raman spectroscopy revealed structural transitions: pristine graphene grown at 700 °C exhibited strong 2D peaks with an I(2D)/I(G) ratio > 2, while hydrogenated graphene synthesized at 500 °C showed increased defect density with an I(D)/I(G) ratio of ~1.

Bottom-up syntheses of carbon nanodots (CND) using solvothermal treatment of citric acid are known to afford nanometer-sized, amorphous polycitric acid-based materials. The addition of suitable co-reactants in the form of in-situ synthesized N-hetero-π-conjugated chromophores facilitates hereby the overall functionalization. Our incentive was to design a CND model that features phenazine (P-CND) - a well-known N-hetero-π-conjugated chromophore - to investigate the influence of the CND matrix on its redox chemistry as well as photochemistry.

Isoniazid (INH) and rifampicin (RIF) are the two main drugs used for the management of tuberculosis. They are often used as a fixed drug combination, but their delivery is challenged by suboptimal solubility and physical instability. This study explores the potential of active pharmaceutical ingredient-ionic liquids (API-ILs) to improve the physicochemical and pharmaceutical properties of INH and RIF.

To improve water splitting efficiency and enhance energy utilization, it is crucial to develop catalysts with excellent activity, long-term stability, and low cost. In this study, we synthesized a three-dimensional nanostructured amorphous CoMoP/NF bifunctional catalyst for both the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and the 5-hydroxymethylfurfural oxidation reaction (HMFOR), using a sacrificial template method. Benefiting from element doping regulation and morphology control, CoMoP/NF exhibited outstanding catalytic activity.
