Background: Learning curves and efficiency concerns have slowed the integration of laparoscopy into colorectal practice. We evaluated our experience with laparoscopic colorectal (LC) surgery using enhanced recovery pathways (ERPs).
Methods: One thousand consecutive LC procedures performed by 2 surgeons over a 5-year period using previously published, standardized ERPs were assessed.
Results: The mean age was 59, and the mean body mass index was 29.5. Procedures included segmental colectomy (54%), proctectomy (19%), total colectomy (11%), ostomy (5%), and other procedures (11%). Diagnoses included malignancy (41%), diverticulitis (16%), inflammatory bowel disease (13%), and other (30%). The mean operative time was 151 minutes, and the mean blood loss was 55 mL. Conversion to an open surgery occurred in 5.8%, whereas 2.3% were performed using a hand-assist procedure. The mean hospital stay was 4.1 days (median 3), with a 6% readmission rate. Complications (20%) included mortality (0.3%), wound infection (4%), and anastomotic leak (1.4%).
Conclusions: LC surgery with ERP offers excellent outcomes with efficient use of resources.

Objective: To study the effect of transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block under direct vision with acupoint injection on the rapid recovery of patients after laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
Methods: Ninety-three patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy at Hangzhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2023 to December 2023 were selected and divided into control, TAP block under direct vision (TAP-DV), and TAP-DV with acupoint injection (TAP-DVA) groups using a random number table method. Postoperative VAS, Ramsay score, IL-6, CRP, and postoperative rehabilitation indices were compared among the three groups.

Understanding the interfacial interaction mechanisms between oil and minerals is of vital importance in the applications of petroleum production and environmental protection. In this work, the interactions of dodecane with mica and calcite in aqueous media were investigated by using the drop probe technique based on atomic force microscopy. For the dodecane-mica interactions, the electrical double layer (EDL) repulsion dominated in 10 mM NaCl solution, and a higher pH facilitated the detachment of dodecane.

Background: Myoelectric pattern recognition (MPR) combines multiple surface electromyography channels with a machine learning algorithm to decode motor intention with an aim to enhance upper limb function after stroke. This study aims to determine the feasibility and preliminary effectiveness of a novel intervention combining MPR, virtual reality (VR), and serious gaming to improve upper limb function in people with chronic stroke.
Methods: In this single case experimental A-B-A design study, six individuals with chronic stroke and moderate to severe upper limb impairment completed 18, 2 h sessions, 3 times a week.

Background: The existing criteria for living kidney donors (LKDs)in Japan are controversial. We evaluated the roles of computed tomography volumetry (CTV) and 99 m Tc-diethylenetriamine penta-acetic acid (DTPA) scintigraphy in assessing preoperative and postoperative renal function and predicting early recovery of residual renal function.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical charts of 175 consecutive LKDs who underwent donor nephrectomy (DN) at our institution between 2006 and 2022.

Background: This study evaluates the comprehensive impact of different exercise interventions on the quality of life in stroke patients through network meta-analysis, aiming to provide scientific evidence for developing more effective rehabilitation programs and improving patients' physical, psychological, and social functions.
Methods: This systematic review, registered in PROSPERO (CRD42024541517) and following PRISMA guidelines, searched multiple databases (PubMed, Web of Science, EMbase, Cochrane, Ebsco) until November 1, 2024. Studies were selected based on the PICOS criteria, including RCTs on stroke and exercise.
