is an emerging slowly growing species that belongs to the group of nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) with approximately 20 cases reported worldwide. We highlight the first case of pulmonary infection by in United Arab Emirates (UAE). A 44-year-old female presented with chronic productive cough; a bronchial breathing pattern was appreciated on auscultation of her right upper lung.

Four species of non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) rated as biosafety level 1 or 2 (BSL-1/BSL-2) organisms and showing higher genomic similarity with () than previous comparator species and were subjected to genomic and phenotypic characterization. These species named , , and might represent "missing links" between low-virulent mycobacterial opportunists and the highly virulent obligate pathogen . We confirmed that is the closest NTM species to currently known and found that it has an optimal growth temperature of 32°C-35°C and not 37°C.

Current evolutionary scenarios posit the emergence of from an environmental saprophyte through a cumulative process of genome adaptation. , a related bacillus, is being increasingly isolated from human clinical cases with tuberculosis-like symptoms in various parts of the world. To elucidate the evolutionary relationship between and other mycobacterial species, including members of the complex (MTBC), eight clinical isolates of were sequenced and analyzed.

Objective: Tobacco smoking remains a worldwide health issue, and the use of flavored varieties (maassel) embedded in glycerine, molasses, and fruit essence via shisha paraphernalia (waterpipe) is growing globally. 16S rRNA gene pyrosequencing was conducted on 18 different varieties representing 16 flavors and three brands in order to study the microbiota of maassel and find whether it contains pathogenic bacteria.
Materials And Methods: The samples were selected randomly from the most utilized brands within Albaha, Saudi Arabia as determined through a questionnaire of 253 smokers.

Non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) have evolved as an emerging group of pathogens globally. Due to the pitfalls in identification, the majority of them are not familiar or remain 'rare' to clinicians and microbiologists. In available literatures, a consolidated global data analysis is non-existent on rarely encountered NTM.
