In 2008, diagnosis and investigation of 2 multidrug-resistant tuberculosis cases with matching genotypes led to identification of an outbreak among foreign-born persons who performed short-term seafood production work in Alaska during 2006. Tuberculosis control programs should consider the possibility of domestic transmission even among foreign-born patients.

Studies aimed to evaluate the expected impact of alternative screening strategies are essential for optimizing colorectal cancer (CRC) screening offers, but such studies are lacking in Germany, where two screening colonoscopies (CS) 10 years apart are offered for men from age 50 and women from age 55. Our aim was to explore whether and to what extent the efficacy of utilizing two CS could be enhanced by alternative starting ages and screening intervals. We modeled the expected numbers of CRC cases, CRC deaths, years of potential life lost (YPLL), and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) due to CRC in hypothetical cohorts of 100,000 men and women aged 45-85 using COSIMO, a validated Markov-based multi-state simulation model.

Objectives: Diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) are one of the most serious chronic diabetes related complications. Since medial arterial calcification (MAC) can be present in patients with a DFU, toe pressure (TP) measurements are advised to grade potential ischemia. However, the value of TP to predict clinical outcomes in this group of patients is poorly understood.

The host range of HPAIV H5N1 was recently expanded to include ruminants, particularly dairy cattle in the United States (US). Shortly after, human H5N1 infection was reported in a dairy worker in Texas following exposure to infected cattle. Herein, we rescued the cattle-origin influenza A/bovine/Texas/24-029328-02/2024(H5N1, rHPbTX) and A/Texas/37/2024(H5N1, rHPhTX) viruses, identified in dairy cattle and human, respectively, and their low pathogenic forms, rLPbTX and rLPhTX, with monobasic HA cleavage sites.

Background: Longitudinal digital health studies combine passively collected information from digital devices, such as commercial wearable devices, and actively contributed data, such as surveys, from participants. Although the use of smartphones and access to the internet supports the development of these studies, challenges exist in collecting representative data due to low adherence and retention. We aimed to identify key factors related to adherence and retention in digital health studies and develop a methodology to identify factors that are associated with and might affect study participant engagement.
