What's known on the subject? and What does the study add? There are a number of techniques used successfully to perform brachytherapy, including 2-stage procedures and realtime techniques using loose seeds. This study demonstrates a one-stage realtime brachytherapy technique using stranded seeds with improved time efficiency and clinical outcome: 4D Brachytherapy. This paper reviews the development of a new one-stage prostate brachytherapy technique (4D Brachytherapy) using a combination of stranded and loose seeds. This novel technique utilizes a nomogram constructed from over 1000 procedures to calculate the seed requirement in advance of the implant. This allows stranded seeds to be pre-ordered and loaded prior to the procedure rather than per-operatively, resulting in a more efficient use of operating room time. The use of both stranded and loose seeds may reduce the risk of migration from peripherally placed seeds via the venous plexus, whilst maintaining the flexibility to optimize the dose within the prostate and especially at the apex of the gland. Prospectively collected data show significantly improved dosimetry: median D(90) 143 and 153 Gy (P < 0.005) and median V(100) 88% and 93% (P < 0.005) for the Seattle technique and 4D Brachytherapy implant technique, respectively. Also there was a reduced short-term urinary morbidity as assessed by the change in International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) at 3 months and 1 year compared with the Seattle technique. Mean (sd) change in IPSS from baseline at 1 year was 2.73 (5.92) and 0.97 (5.10) for the Seattle and 4D Brachytherapy series, respectively (P < 0.049).

Lotus seeds represent a significant economic crop and are abundant in starch. To further enhance their application value, this study investigates the structural characteristics of lotus seed starch (LS) under the combined influence of pullulanase and high hydrostatic pressure (HHP). Pullulanase increased amylose content from 39.

Microalgae-bacterial granular sludge (MBGS) process has great potential in achieving carbon neutrality and energy neutrality, but rapidly cultivating MBGS remains challenging. To address this challenge, this study proposes a new strategy to develop MBGS systems using pre-made granules from microalgae and dewatered sludge. The results indicate that using pre-made microalgae-dewatered sludge granules (M-DSG) as inoculants can directly develop MBGS system, with M-DSG maintaining a relatively stable granular structure, and ultimately achieving pollutant removal efficiencies of 94.

PFASs are a variety of ecologically persistent compounds of anthropogenic origin loosely included in many industrial products. In these, the carbon chain can be fully (perfluoroalkyl substances) or partially (polyfluoroalkyl substances) fluorinated. Their ubiquitous presence in many environmental compartments over the years and their long-lasting nature have given rise to concerns about the possible adverse effects of PFASs on ecosystems and human health.

The interaction between polyphenols and starch is an important factor affecting the structure and function of starch. Here, the impact of chlorogenic acid on the multi-scale structure and digestive properties of lotus seed starch under autoclaving treatment were evaluated in this study. The results showed that lotus seed starch granules were destroyed under autoclaving treatment, and chlorogenic acid promoted the formation of loose gel structure of lotus seed starch.

Examining the connection between P and starch-related signals can help elucidate the balance between nutrients and yield. This study utilized 307 diverse maize inbred lines to conduct multi-year and multi-plot trials, aiming to explore the relationship among P content, starch content, and 100-kernel weight (HKW) of mature grains. A significant negative correlation was found between P content and both starch content and HKW, while starch content showed a positive correlation with HKW.
