Prospective cohort studies are useful for studying how biomolecular status affects risk of adverse health outcomes. Less well known is that the longer the follow-up time, the lower the association (or "apparent effect") due to "regression dilution". Here, we evaluate how follow-up interval from baseline to "event" affects the relationship between baseline serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] concentration and the later incidence of stroke and major cardiovascular events (MACEs).

Background: Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT), a condition that manifests in various clinical forms, is a significant health concern. Normocalcemic primary hyperparathyroidism (NPHPT) is characterized by normal calcemia despite elevated parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels. Vitamin D deficiency can contribute to the clinical spectrum and complexity of NPHPT.

Therefore, it is important that each laboratory determines and classifies its own reliable RI for each test to ensure an accurate and effective interpretation. The proposed method for determining RI is the "direct" approach, but it is a difficult, troublesome, time-consuming, and expensive method.

The immune benefits of vitamin D3 supplementation beyond calcium and phosphate maintenance are highly clinically debated. Kidney expression of CYP27B1 is the source of endocrine, circulating 1,25(OH)2D3 (active form of vitamin D) that maintains serum calcium and phosphate. 1,25(OH)2D3 may also be made by the CYP27B1 enzyme in nonrenal cells, like immune cells, in a process driven by cellular availability of 25(OH)D3 and inflammation.

Introduction: Anaemia in the elderly is often difficult to treat with iron supplementation alone as prevalence of anaemia of chronic disease (ACD) alone or mixed with iron-deficiency anaemia (IDA) is high in this age group. Hepcidin remains high in ACD, preventing utilisation of iron for heme synthesis. Vitamin D has shown hepcidin suppression activity in both in vitro and in vivo studies.
