[Response to the cholera epidemic at Port au Prince (Haiti) in December 2010].

Med Trop (Mars)

Croix-Rouge Française.

Published: October 2011

Cholera, that had been present in rural areas north of Port-au-Prince, Haiti since October 2010, reached the urban area in November. Due to the novelty of the disease in this region, to the lack of health care, clean water, and waste disposal facilities, and to the extensive damage caused by the earthquake on January 12, 2010, that left a large victim population living in camps, a large-scale health disaster was feared. However, after two months, the disease appeared to be relatively well-controlled and treated with a fatality rate of less than 1% in the urban area. Actions implemented by the Ministry of Health long with its efforts to coordinate the intervention of the many humanitarian partners played a role in this outcome.

Folate and Vitamin B12 Status among Non-Pregnant, Non-Lactating Women of Reproductive Age and Predicted Risk for Neural Tube Defects, Morogoro Region, Tanzania.

Matern Child Health J

January 2025

Tanzania Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program, Tanzania Ministry of Health, Dodoma, Tanzania.

Introduction: Population risk for neural tube defects (NTDs) can be determined using red blood cell (RBC) folate. However, a paucity of biomarker and surveillance data among non-lactating, non-pregnant women of reproductive age (NPWRA) from Africa limits accurate assessment. Our study assessed folate and vitamin B12 status among non-lactating NPWRA and predicted population risk of NTDs in Tanzania.

This study expands the original two-dimensional carbon footprint model into a three-dimensional model form. Introduce two indicators of carbon footprint depth (CF) and size (CF) to form a three-dimensional carbon footprint model (CF), which is used to respectively represent the occupation and consumption of natural capital reserves by human activities' carbon emissions. Based on the 3D carbon footprint model, this paper calculated the CF, CF, and CF for four different urban agglomerations of China (BTH, YRD, PRD, and CY) spanning from 2000 to 2017.

Investigating the effects of urbanization at the county level on the balance of the carbon budget is essential for progress toward achieving "dual carbon" objectives at the county scale. Based on land use and economic data, this study elucidates the spatiotemporal evolution of urbanization and carbon budget balance ratio in 84 counties in Jiangxi Province from 1980 to 2020. Optimal geographic detectors and geographically weighted random forests were used to explore the impact of urbanization on the carbon budget balance ratio.
