Published: April 2012

The physical properties of melanosomes have been shown to depend on water content. Herein, the ultraviolet absorption coefficient at λ = 244 nm for intact bovine choroidal melanosomes is determined from photoemission electron microscopy images recorded as a function of vacuum exposure. The dehydration of the melanosome under ultra-high vacuum manifests itself by a decrease in the absorption coefficient to about 60% of its initial value, and a concomitant increase in its image brightness. This change in the absorption of the melanosome is consistent with the influence of solvent polarity on the UV absorption coefficient of model systems for the pigment eumelanin, the predominant UV absorber contained in the choroid melanosomes.

Purpose: Mitoxantrone (MTX) is largely restricted in clinical usage due to its significant cardiotoxicity. Multiple studies have shown that an imbalance in the gut-heart axis plays an important role in the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD). We aim to explore the possible correlations between gut microbiota (GM) compositions and cardiometabolic (CM) disorder in MTX-triggered cardiotoxicity mice.

Unlabelled: Accurate prediction of moisture distributions in wood is among the most critical challenges in timber engineering. Achieving this requires a well-coordinated comparison of experimental methods and simulation tools. While significant progress has been made in developing simulation tools in recent years, a lack of experience with and trust in these tools continues to hinder broader implementation, especially when it comes to free water and its absorption.

Carbon Black Absorption Enhanced Fiber-Optic Photoacoustic Gas Sensing System with Ultrahigh Sensitivity.

Anal Chem

January 2025

School of Optoelectronic Engineering and Instrumentation Science, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian, Liaoning 116024, China.

A highly sensitive trace gas sensing system based on carbon black absorption enhanced photoacoustic (PA) spectroscopy (PAS) is reported. A carbon black sheet and a fiber-optic cantilever microphone (FOCM) are integrated to form a fiber-optic cantilever spectrophone (FOCS). The gas concentration is obtained by measuring the acoustic wave amplitude generated by the carbon black sheet, which absorbs the laser passing through the interest gas.

Spatial variation of land use carbon budget and zoning for carbon compensation in the Huai River Eco-economic Belt, China.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Key Research Base of Philosophy and Social Sciences in Jiangsu Universities, Research Institute of Huai River Eco-economic Belt, Huaiyin Normal University, Huaian, 223300, China.

Carrying out carbon budget assessment and carbon compensation zoning research from inter-regional perspective can actively boost the formulation of green, low-carbon transformation strategies, guiding the flow of compensation credits, promoting regional equity and sustainable development, and realizing China's "dual-carbon" goal. Huai River Eco-economic Belt is considered to be a typical example of how land use affects carbon budget due to its more drastic land changes. The paper uses the carbon emission coefficient method to analyze the carbon revenue and expenditure of kinds of land-use patterns, and constructs the carbon compensation model with the help of the carbon budget concentration index and the dominant comparative advantage index, and puts forward the carbon compensation zoning program.

This work represents different spectrophotometric techniques for concurrent quantification of Indacaterol (IND) and Mometasone furoate (MOM); co-formulated inhalation capsules to control asthma symptoms. Direct spectrophotometric (D) approach was applied for IND assay. While, absorption factor (AF), ratio difference (RD), mean centering of the ratio spectra (MC), and continuous wavelet transform (CW) techniques were utilized for MOM quantification.
