Lipids offer high energy recovery potential during anaerobic digestion (AD), but their hydrolysis generates long-chain fatty acids (LCFAs), which are difficult to biodegrade. The introduction of microbial electrolysis cells has been widely recognized as a promising strategy to enhance AD. However, it is still under debate whether the electrical circuit needs to be connected, as certain electrodes with large specific surface areas have been reported to enhance direct interspecies electron transfer (DIET) without requiring an external power supply.

The presence of mixed microplastics (MPs) in anaerobic wastewater treatment processes has been shown to impede fermentation performance by suppressing microbial activity. Microbial electrosynthesis (MES), with its extensive potential, offers a promising solution for refractory substances management and methane recovery, achieved through the enhancement of microbial metabolism and interspecies electron transfer. This study, therefore, delves into the functional impacts and the microbial response to MES in the remediation of wastewater contaminated with mixed-MPs.

This first-attempt study elucidated the microbial mechanism associated with bioelectricity output in microbial fuel cells (MFCs) fed with sludge matrices of freezing/thawing (F/T) liquid versus fermentation liquor, while a novel schematic elucidation for exploring cooperative interactions in anodic microbial consortia of MFCs supplied with such two feeds toward electrogenesis was put forward. Moreover, the F/T liquid cultivated main genera of Azospira, Povalibacter, Thauera, Terrimonas, Alicycliphilus, Dokdonella and Simplicispira for dual organics degradation and electrogenesis with power density of 0.152 mW/m and electrogenesis efficiency of 1.

This study developed an economical approach for enhancing short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) production from waste activated sludge (WAS) by NaCl assistant anaerobic fermentation. With NaCl addition at 20 g/L, sludge disintegration with extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) disruption and cell lysis were induced owing to the attack of osmotic pressure, which facilitated WAS solubilization with release of biodegradable organic matters. The SCOD sharply increased to 4092 mg/L (SCOD/TCOD = 23.

Objective: To determine the efficacy of cortexin in treatment of traumatic brain injuries with contusion of moderate severity in children in an outpatient clinics.
Materials And Methods: Seventy-four patients, aged 6-13 years, with a traumatic brain injury and a moderate brain contusion were examined. A comprehensive clinical examination, including neurological and ophthalmological examinations, EEG, brain CT scan, testing using a set of experimental psychological techniques, was performed.
