Solid-state dye-sensitized solar cell with 7.1% efficiency at 100 mW/cm(2) is reported, one of the highest observed for N719 dye. Excellent performance was achieved via a graft copolymer-templated, organized mesoporous TiO(2) film with a large surface area using spindle-shaped, preformed TiO(2) nanoparticles and solid polymer electrolyte.

As synthetic and nonbiodegradable compounds are becoming a great challenge for the environment, developing polymer electrolytes using naturally occurring biodegradable polymers has drawn considerable research interest to replace traditional aqueous electrolytes and synthetic polymer-based polymer electrolytes. This study shows the development of a highly conducting ionic liquid (1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium iodide)-doped corn starch-based polymer electrolyte. A simple solution cast method is used to prepare biopolymer-based polymer electrolytes and characterized using different electrical, structural, and photoelectrochemical studies.

Light-Induced H NMR Hyperpolarization in Solids at 9.4 and 21.1 T.

J Am Chem Soc

Institut des Sciences et Ingenierie Chimiques, École Polytechnique Fedérale de Lausanne (EPFL), CH-1015 Lausanne, Switzerland.

The inherently low sensitivity of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is the major limiting factor for its application to elucidate structure and dynamics in solids. In the solid state, nuclear spin hyperpolarization methods based on microwave-induced dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) provide a versatile platform to enhance the bulk NMR signal of many different sample formulations, leading to significant sensitivity improvements. Here we show that H NMR hyperpolarization can also be generated in solids at high magnetic fields by optical irradiation of the sample.

High-performance photovoltaic devices require active photoanodes with superior optoelectric properties. In this study, we synthesized neodymium ruthenate, NdRuO (NRO), and gadolinium ruthenate pyrochlore oxides, GdRuO (GRO), via the solid-state reaction technique, showcasing their potential as promising candidates for photoanode absorbers to enhance the efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cells. A structural analysis revealed predominantly cubic symmetry phases for both materials within the - space group, along with residual orthorhombic symmetry phases (NdRuO and GdRuO, respectively) refined in the space group.

Anionic Effect on Electrical Transport Properties of Solid Co Redox Mediators.

In a solid-state dye-sensitized solar cell, a fast-ion conducting (σ > 10 S cm) solid redox mediator (SRM; electrolyte) helps in fast dye regeneration and back-electron transfer inhibition. In this work, we synthesized solid Co redox mediators using a [(1 - )succinonitrile: poly(ethylene oxide)] matrix, LiX, Co(tris-2,2'-bipyridine)(bis(trifluoromethyl) sulfonylimide), and Co(tris-2,2'-bipyridine)(bis(trifluoromethyl) sulfonylimide) via the solution-cast method, and the results were compared with those of their acetonitrile-based liquid counterparts. The notation is a weight fraction (=0, 0.

The optimization of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) technology towards suppressing charge recombination between the contact and the electron transport layer is a key factor in achieving high conversion efficiency and the successful commercialization of this type of product. An important aspect of the DSSC structure is the front blocking layer (BL): optimizing this component may increase the efficiency of photoelectron transfer from the dye to the semiconductor by reduction charge recombination at the TiO/electrolyte and FTO/electrolyte interfaces. In this paper, a series of blocking layer variants, based on TiO and ZnO:TiO, were obtained using the reactive magnetron sputtering method.
