This paper is dedicated to the study on the external and internal mass transfers of glucose for succinic acid fermentation under substrate and product inhibitions using a bioreactor with stirred bed of immobilized Actinobacillus succinogenes cells. By means of the substrate mass balance for a single particle of biocatalysts, considering the kinetic model adapted for both inhibitory effects, specific mathematical models were developed for describing the profiles of the substrate concentration in the outer and inner regions of biocatalysts and for estimating the substrate mass flows in the liquid boundary layer surrounding the particle and inside the particle. The values of the mass flows were significantly influenced by the internal diffusion velocity and rate of the biochemical reaction of substrate consumption. These cumulated influences led to the appearance of a biological inactive region near the particle center, its magnitude varying from 0 to 5.3% of the overall volume of particles.

Soft and stretchable strain sensors are crucial for applications in human-machine interfaces, flexible robotics, and electronic skin. Among these, capacitive strain sensors are widely used and studied; however, they face challenges due to material and structural constraints, such as low baseline capacitance and susceptibility to external interference, which result in low signal-to-noise ratios and poor stability. To address these issues, we propose a U-shaped electrode flexible strain sensor based on liquid metal elastomer (LME).

Objective: The ExPRO (External factors influencing patient reported outcomes of patients with malignant diseases) study explored associations between QoL data and environmental factors on the day of questionnaire completion: mean temperature, sunshine hours, season, and lunar phase.
Methods: We undertook a cross-sectional analysis of baseline data in the prospective cohort study at two cancer centers in eastern Germany. From December 2020 to December 2021, cancer patients completed the EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaire upon admission.

Are the regulations relating to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) sufficient to ensure the safety of all autonomy systems? EMC is one of the critical factors influencing the proper functioning of a vehicle and its safety. However, the safety of autonomous vehicles from the perspective of EMC has not been comprehensively researched to date. The purpose of this article is to evaluate whether the currently imposed requirements are adequate.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) currently serves as the primary diagnostic method for glioma detection and monitoring. The integration of neurosurgery, radiation therapy, pathology, and radiology in a multi-disciplinary approach has significantly advanced its diagnosis and treatment. However, the prognosis remains unfavorable due to treatment resistance, inconsistent response rates, and high recurrence rates after surgery.

This study investigated the survival and growth of in onion extracts and bulbs. The inhibition or retardation of growth by extracts of red, white, and yellow onions was tested against the onion germplasm and exposure to different light spectra during curing. Separately, survival of Newport was tested on red, white, and yellow onion bulbs on the external and internal onion layers with a syringe and needle.
