We report a case of a woman in her fifties presenting with abdominal pain, headache and high fever. Blood examination showed a high CRP level and liver dysfunction, and then abdominal CT scan showed multiple liver masses and a 5 cm submucosal tumor of the small intestine. We diagnosed the multiple liver masses as liver abscesses, so we administered antibiotics. We suspected that the tumor was a cause of liver abscesses, and then performed a resection of the tumor and partial small intestine on the third day of hospitalization. We diagnosed the tumor as GIST because it was positive for c-kit and CD34 by immunohistochemistry. One of the resected liver nodules showed negative for c-kit and CD34, and we diagnosed it as a liver abscess. We performed percutaneous transhepatic abscess drainage (PTAD) because she ran into high fever after the operation, and then she recovered. We consider she has the possibility of liver metastasis, so we administered imatinib mesylate to her. No recurrence was found for 11 months after the operation. This case provides valuable information because there are few reports of GIST with liver abscesses.

This study aimed to investigate the protective effects of Lycium barbarum polysaccharide (LBP) on digestive function and intestinal barrier integrity in septic mice, and to explore its underlying mechanisms. A total of 70 healthy male BALB/C mice were randomly assigned into five groups: blank control group (BG, n = 12), control group (CG, n = 12), low-dose group (LDG, n = 12, 200 mg/kg), medium-dose group (MDG, n = 12, 400 mg/kg), and high-dose group (HDG, n = 12, 800 mg/kg). A sepsis model was established by cecal ligation and puncture, followed by treatment with different doses of LBP.

The early microbial colonization of the porcine gut is an important priming factor for gut and immune development. Nevertheless, little is known about the composition of microbes that translocate into the ileo-cecal lymph nodes (ICLN) in the neonatal phase. This study aimed to characterize age- and nutrition-related changes in the metabolically active bacterial and fungal composition of the ICLN in suckling and newly weaned piglets.

(CM), a well-known parasitic fungus that grows on the larvae of , has a variety of pharmacological activities. However, little is known about its safe dosage for animals, including pigs. To explore its effect on intestinal health and evaluate its safe dosage, 30 weaned pigs were randomly allotted to five groups and fed with a basal diet supplemented with different doses of CM for 42 days.

Objective: To explore the application value of using 3-dimensional (3D) printing (3DP) technology to create individualized vaginal molds for brachytherapy (BT) in high-dose-rate 3D cervical cancer through reverse engineering of needle placement.
Methods: Prospectively, 11 patients with cervical cancer were treated with 3DP-intracavitary/interstitial (IC/IS) BT using 3DP to create individualized vaginal molds. All patients were performed BT after completion of external beam radiotherapy (EBRT).
Small intestine neuroendocrine tumours (SI-NETs) are often diagnosed late with a UK median of 3 years and high misdiagnosis rates. Previous studies, largely based on patient surveys, offer little data on improving diagnosis. In 2017, the South Wales NET service underwent a nationally commissioned, systematic transformation, aiming to improve diagnosis through the development of a gastroenterology and surgical referral network, and education of these specialities.
