To improve the stability of cell membrane mimics, there has been growing interest in the use of block copolymers. Here, we present an easy approach to create an array of planar polymeric matrices capable of hosting membrane proteins. The array of polymeric matrices was formed by the selective deposition of triblock copolymers onto an array of hydrophilic islands situated within a hydrophobic background. The thickness of these matrices corresponds to the length of a single polymer chain. These polymeric matrices were used to host cell-free expressed membrane proteins, and offers a prototype from which a membrane protein array can be created for diagnostics or drug discovery purposes.
Microplastics （MPs）, as a type of emerging environmental pollutant with a particle size < 5 mm, have been frequently detected in environmental matrices. MPs pollution in soils has been attracting the scientific community due to the increasing contaminant areas and continuous accumulation, leading to a high risk to crop production. In addition, recent studies have observed that long-term exposure to MPs could seriously harm the soil ecosystem because of their fine particle size and persistence in soils.
Acyclovir (ACV) is a potentially effective antiviral medication; however, it has a serious drawback, which is its poor solubility, bioavailability, and short half-life. The goal of this study is to improve its drawbacks through the synthesis of nanogels. In this study, the cross-linked hyaluronic acid-grafted poly(acrylamide--itaconic acid) nanogel is synthesized successfully through free radical polymerization and used as a safe pH-responsive carrier for ACV.
Thermal conductivity enhancement in polymers is vital for advanced applications. This study introduces a novel method to align hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) nanosheets within polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) matrices using a Halbach array to create a highly uniform magnetic field. This technique achieves significant improvements in thermal conductivity by effectively aligning hBN nanosheets.
Electrospun nanofibers produced through single-fluid blending processes have successfully demonstrated their potential as highly effective wound dressings. However, electrospun Janus nanofibers, in which various chambers can be designed to load different active pharmaceutical ingredients into different polymeric matrices, are further exhibiting their versatility for promoting wound healing. This commentary declares that wound dressings always need multiple functional performances to promote wound healing.
Background: The typical aroma compounds in methionine-glucose Maillard products often undergo further degradation and polymerization during storage and thermal processing, leading to flavor dispersion and aroma distortion. It is crucial to identify measures that enhance typical aroma substances in such flavor matrices.
Results: The effect of oxygen on the flavor formation of methionine-glucose thermal reaction system was explored by determining typical flavor substance contents and flavor differences.
