Department of Cardiology, University Medical Centre Groningen, University of Groningen, Hanzeplein 1, 9713 GZ, Groningen, The Netherlands.
Background And Aims: Current estimates for the lifetime risk to develop heart failure with either a reduced (HFrEF) or preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and their associated risk factors are derived from two studies from the USA. The sex-specific lifetime risk and population attributable fraction of potentially modifiable risk factors for incident HFpEF and HFrEF are described in a large European community-based cohort with 25 years of follow-up.
Methods: A total of 8558 participants from the PREVEND cohort were studied at baseline from 1997 onwards and followed until 2022 for cases of new-onset HFrEF (ejection fraction < 50%) and HFpEF (ejection fraction ≥ 50%) by assessment of hospital records.

Background: IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is the most common primary glomerular disease in the world, and specific therapeutic methods for IgAN are limited. Telitacicept is a humanized fusion protein composed of a transmembrane activator and calcium-modulating cyclophilin ligand interactor receptor and human IgG.
Aim: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of telitacicept in adult patients with IgAN in a real-world study.

January 2025
Department of Urology, Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, Wuhan, China.
Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of an enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) strategy for upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) patients undergoing laparoscopic radical nephroureterectomy (LRNU).
Methods: 90 patients who received LRNU at Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University between January 2018 and July 2022 were retrospectively analyzed, including 43 in the ERAS group and 47 in the pre-ERAS group. The clinical features, postoperative complications, length of hospital stay (LOS), and hospital expenditures of the two groups were compared via t-test, Mann-Whitney test, and Chi-square test.

Division of Nephrology, National Clinical Research Center for Kidney Disease, State Key Laboratory of Organ Failure Research, Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University, 1838 N Guangzhou Ave, Guangzhou, 510515, China.
Background: The effects of acute kidney injury (AKI) on liver-related outcomes in patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection remain unclear. The study aimed to evaluate the association between AKI with liver-related mortality and complications in patients with HBV infection.
Methods: The multicenter, retrospective cohort study included Chinese adults with HBV infection from 24 regional central hospitals between January 2000 and December 2022.
Background: Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) have a strong pathophysiological interrelationship, and their combination worsens prognosis.
Summary: This article briefly reviews the bidirectional epidemiological burden and the pathophysiological interplay between HFpEF and CKD. It also discusses some of the controversial aspects regarding the diagnosis and screening of HFpEF in CKD patients and focuses on the most effective therapeutic approaches to improve symptoms and prognosis in this high-risk population.
