Limited studies have been performed on the characterization of small size plasmids of Enterococcus faecium with the intention of evaluating the strength of their promoters in Escherichia coli. The complete nucleotide sequence (3.825 Kb) and structural organization of E. faecium DJ1 cryptic plasmid pNJAKD is presented. Seven promoter sequences from the pNJAKD plasmid of E. faecium have been identified. The regions coding for the putative promoters were either amplified using PCR based techniques or chemically synthesized as oligonucleotides of different sizes. These were subsequently cloned in the pEGFP vector at the Pvu II site. The efficiency of putative promoter fragments were measured using the intensity of eGFP fluorescence in E. coli JM101, DH5α and BL21(DE3), among which AKD3 exhibited moderate to strongest promoter activity at temperatures of 30, 37, and 42°C.

Introduction: The exact triggers of gallstone formation remain incompletely understood, but research indicates that microbial infection is a significant factor and can interfere with treatment. There is no consensus on the bile microbial culture profiles in previous studies, and determining the microbial profile could aid in targeted prevention and treatment. The primary aim of this study is to investigate the differences in microbial communities cultured from bile specimens of patients with gallstones.

We collected a urine specimen from a 20-year-old male, cultured it on Chrom-agar , identified it with VITEK2, and whole-genome sequenced it using the PacBio RSII. The genome was 3,111,621 nucleotides long with a GC% of 37.6%.

A 2020 Salmonella outbreak was epidemiologically linked to red onions; however, insufficient cleaning and sanitation in the packinghouse expanded the recall to include all onions handled by the packing house in the preceding 3 months. Our objective was to evaluate the efficacy of dry sanitizers to reduce cross-contamination risk on food contact surfaces (FCS) found in post-harvest packing areas. Transfer of Salmonella and potential surrogates (Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecium) to and from onions to FCS materials (high density polypropylene, polyester-nylon conveyor belts, plywood) was quantified.

Introduction: is a widespread acid-lactic bacterium found in the environment, humans, and animal microbiota, and it also plays a role in the production of traditional food. However, the worldwide emergence of multidrug-resistant strains represents a major public health threat and is the primary reason that the genus is not recommended for the Qualified Presumption of Safety (QPS) list of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), raising concerns about its presence in food products.
Methods: In this study, 39 and 5 isolates were obtained from artisanal brine cheeses and dry sausages, sourced from 21 different Montenegrin producers.

A practical and efficient reaction for C2-selenylation of 1,4-naphthoquinones has been explored. This coupling reaction of two redox structural motifs, such as 2-bromo-1,4-naphthoquinone with diaryldiselenide / ebselen has been achieved by using sodium borohydride reducing agent at room temperature. Using this approach, several 2-selenylated-1,4-naphthoquinones were obtained in moderate to good yields and thoroughly characterized by multinuclear (1H, 13C, and 77Se) NMR, cyclic voltammetry, and mass spectrometry.
