Children gradually develop interpretive theory of mind (iToM)-the understanding that different people may interpret identical events or stimuli differently. The present study tested whether more advanced iToM underlies children's recognition that map symbols' meanings must be communicated to others when symbols are iconic (resemble their referents). Children (6-9 years; N = 80) made maps using either iconic or abstract symbols. After accounting for age, intelligence, vocabulary, and memory, iToM predicted children's success in communicating symbols' meaning to a naïve map-user when mapping tasks involved iconic (but not abstract) symbols. Findings suggest children's growing appreciation of alternative representations and of the intentional assignment of meaning, and support the contention that ToM progresses beyond mastery of false belief.

Energy decomposition analysis (EDA) based on density functional theory (DFT) and self-consistent field (SCF) calculations has become widely used for understanding intermolecular interactions. This work reports a new approach to EDA for post-SCF wave functions based on closed-shell restricted second-order Mo̷ller-Plesset (MP2) together with an efficient implementation that generalizes the successful SCF-level second-generation absolutely localized molecular orbital EDA approach, ALMO-EDA-II, and improves upon MP2 ALMO-EDA-I. The new MP2 ALMO-EDA-II provides distinct energy contributions for a frozen interaction energy containing permanent electrostatics and Pauli repulsions, polarized energy-yielding induced electrostatics, dispersion-corrected energy, and the fully relaxed energy, which describes charge transfer.

In the era of big data, increasing availability of data makes combining different data sources to obtain more accurate estimations a popular topic. However, the development of data integration is often hindered by the heterogeneity in data forms across studies. In this paper, we focus on a case in survival analysis where we have primary study data with a continuous time-to-event outcome and complete covariate measurements, while the data from an external study contain an outcome observed at regular intervals, and only a subset of covariates is measured.

A novel series of azo dyes was successfully synthesized by combining amino benzoic acid and amino phenol on the same molecular framework azo linkage. The structural elucidation of these dyes was carried out using various spectroscopic techniques, including UV-vis, FT-IR, NMR spectroscopy, and HRMS. Surprisingly, the aromatic proton in some dyes exhibited exchangeability in DO, prompting a 2D NMR analysis to confirm this phenomenon.

Background: Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) has revolutionized our understanding of brain activity by non-invasively detecting changes in blood oxygen levels. This review explores how fMRI is used to study mind-reading processes in adults.

Methodology: A systematic search was conducted across Web of Science, PubMed, and Google Scholar.

Gas and Liquid Isotherms: The Need for a Common Foundation.

Sorption isotherms for gases and liquids have long been formulated separately. There is a fundamental problem with this approach: the popular isotherm models (such as Langmuir, BET, and GAB) for gases cannot be applied straightforwardly to sorption from solution. This contrasts with the theory of liquid solutions, where solute-solute interaction, mediated by the solvent, is captured as the potential of mean force, providing powerful interpretive tools (e.
