Published: January 2012

Dinuclear alkynylplatinum(II) terpyridyl complexes with oligomeric bridge consisting of five repeating meta-phenylene ethynylene (mPE) units have been found to exhibit a strong tendency to fold back onto themselves to form short helical strands through the stabilization of Pt···Pt and π-π interactions. The steric bulk of the terpyridine ligands and the length of the oligomeric bridge have been found to affect the extent of the intramolecular Pt···Pt interaction that governs the stabilization of the short helical strand in solution. Their folding properties via Pt···Pt and π-π stacking interactions have been studied by (1)H NMR, 2D ROESY NMR, electronic absorption, and emission spectroscopies.

Biomarkers that identify tumors with better/worse prognosis can help reduce treatment costs and contribute to patient survival. In urothelial bladder cancer (UBC), accurate prediction of recurrence and progression is essential to inform therapeutic management. Herein, we explore the role of genetic variants of xenobiotic metabolic pathways in UBC susceptibility and prognosis.

Article Synopsis
  • Peers play a crucial role in shaping adolescents' prosocial behaviors, but the cognitive and emotional processes behind this influence and individual differences in susceptibility to peer effects remain under-explored.
  • This study used a gene-gene-environment approach to assess how peer relationships affect prosocial behavior in 1080 Chinese adolescents, focusing on the roles of cognitive and emotional empathy as well as specific genes (OXTR and DRD2).
  • The findings revealed that cognitive empathy mediates the relationship between peer acceptance and prosocial behavior, with certain genetic combinations (AA/AA or G/G) enhancing the positive effects of peer acceptance on empathy and behavior.

The exploration of smart sensors is of great significance for the selectivity, sensitivity, and ability to show the low detection limit for the target analyte. Here, we have used the linker HL (5-((anthracen-9-ylmethyl)amino)isophthalic acid) for the construction of {[Cd(L)(DMF)(HO)]·HO} () which is in order with the chromophore anthracene moiety and the free -NH functionality as a guest interaction site. This framework showed the luminescence recovery "turn-on" detection of the Al ion in an aqueous solution.

Association of alpha globin gene copy number with exhaled nitric oxide in a cross-sectional study of healthy Black adults.

Introduction: The genetic determinants of fractional exhalation of nitric oxide (FeNO), a marker of lung inflammation, are understudied in Black individuals. Alpha globin () restricts nitric oxide signalling in arterial endothelial cells via interactions with nitric oxide synthase; however, its role in regulating the release of NO from respiratory epithelium is less well understood. We hypothesised that an gene deletion, common among Black individuals, would be associated with higher FeNO.

The membrane lipid composition plays an important role in the regulation of membrane protein activity. To probe its influence on proton half-channels' structure in FF-ATP synthase, we performed molecular dynamics simulations with the bacterial protein complex (PDB ID: 6VWK) embedded in three types of membranes: a model POPC, a lipid bilayer containing 25% (in vivo), and 75% (bacterial stress) of cardiolipin (CL). The structure proved to be stable regardless of the lipid composition.
