The effect of atmospheric ultrafine particulate matter (UPM) on respiratory allergic diseases has been investigated for decades; however, the precise molecular mechanisms underlying these effects remain poorly understood. In this study, we used a simulated UPM (sUPM) generated via the spark discharge method to refine black carbon, a core particle that closely mimics real-world UPM, including the size (i.e.

Shear failure often occurs in engineering rock mass (such as inclined pillar) in gently inclined strata. Prediction and characterization the orientation of shear failure plane is the foundation of rock mass engineering reinforcement. In this paper, sandstone samples are used to perform uniaxial and shear tests to obtain the basic mechanical parameters.

Allergic rhinitis (AR) affects 10 % of the world population, with an increased prevalence in regions with substantial air pollution, but the association between exposure to air pollutants and the short-term risk of AR exacerbations is unclear. We used a time-series approach to analyze the risk of hospital admissions due to AR over 8 days from exposure to various air pollutants. Distributed lag nonlinear models were used to analyze data gathered between 2012 and 2018 in the three largest urban agglomerations in Poland.

Article Synopsis
  • * The study introduces an enhanced method for wavelet adaptive thresholding to effectively remove noise while preserving local waveform spikes, utilizing a newly proposed adaptive correction factor to gauge noise intensity.
  • * The effectiveness of this improved method is assessed through various metrics, including signal-to-noise ratio, root-mean-square error, sample entropy, and processing time.

The prevalence of asthma and allergies among children has become an increasing problem in the last few decades. Data on the population of children and adolescents, especially living in polluted cities, are limited and based on studies carried out in small groups. In our study, we analyzed the incidence of asthma and allergic rhinitis between 2014 and 2018.
