A laser-driven plasma beat wave, propagating through a plasma with a periodic density modulation, can generate two sideband plasma waves. One sideband moves with a smaller phase velocity than the pump plasma wave and the other propagates with a larger phase velocity. The plasma beat wave with a smaller phase velocity can accelerate modest-energy electrons to gain substantial energy and the electrons are further accelerated by the main plasma wave. The large phase velocity plasma wave can accelerate these electrons to higher energies. As a result, the electrons can attain high energies during the acceleration by the plasma waves in the presence of a periodic density modulation. The analytical results are compared with particle-in-cell simulations and are found to be in reasonable agreement.

Background: Patients with arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy (ACM) due to pathogenic variants in , the gene for the desmosomal protein plakophilin-2, are being enrolled in gene therapy trials designed to replace the defective allele via adeno-associated viral (AAV) transduction of cardiac myocytes. Evidence from experimental systems and patients indicates that ventricular myocytes in ACM have greatly reduced electrical coupling at gap junctions and reduced Na current density. In previous AAV gene therapy trials, <50% of ventricular myocytes have generally been transduced.

. The propagation speed of a shear wave, whether externally or internally induced, in biological tissues is directly linked to the tissue's stiffness. The group shear wave speed (SWS) can be estimated using a class of time-of-flight (TOF) methods in the time-domain or phase speed-based methods in the frequency domain.

Halide perovskites have attracted recent attention as thermoelectric materials due to their low thermal conductivity combined with good charge transport characteristics. The tin halide perovskites hold the highest within metal halide perovskites and offer lower toxicity than lead-containing perovskites that are well-known for photovoltaics. In this study, we partially substitute Sn (II) with Ge (II) to form mixed metal CsSnGeI perovskite thin films that have substantially improved stability, remaining in the black orthorhombic phase after hours of ambient air exposure.

The cryopreservation of human spermatozoa is an integral part of cryobiology, aiming to support the in-vitro fertilization. The latter relies on the availability of as much as possible reproductively active spermatozoa, whose number after thawing decreases due to the accompanied freezing injury and the cytotoxicity of cryoprotectants. An innovative option to circumvent these obstacles is to make the freezing interface non-wettable, by coating it with rapeseed oil soot possessing intrinsic cryoprotective properties, delaying the ice formation and possibly providing identical rates of intracellular dehydration and extracellular crystallization.

The inspection of liquid-filled vials and syringes using automated visual inspection (AVI) machines is a common practice in pharmaceutical production lines. Liquid drug products are typically agitated using a spin-stop motion to detach particles from the interior surface of the containers, thereby maximizing the probability of their detection. A numerical model for an ISO 8362-1 6R glass vial was developed and validated to qualitatively assess the agitation process for a range of motion profiles, liquid drug product properties, and fill volumes.
