Background/aim: Neskeep, an absorbable polyglycolic acid spacer, has been developed as the optimal material for spacer placement surgery. However, preventing its severe adhesion is a crucial concern. Therefore, we aimed to identify an effective anti-adhesion agent for Neskeep using rat models.

Postoperative adhesion is a common complication after abdominal surgery, but current clinical products have unsatisfactory therapeutic effects. Here, we present a hydrogel patch formed in a single step through dialysis. The exchange of DMSO into water facilitates hydrophobic aggregate in situ formation and the formation of hydrogen bonds within the hydrogel.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the impact of intrauterine adhesions (IUA) therapy and endometrial receptivity by implanting autologous bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) into the Interceed and subsequently placing them in the uterine cavity of rats.

Methods: Fifty rats were divided into 5 groups according to the random number table method (10 rats in each group). Following the development of the IUA model through mechanical injury, the animals were categorized into different treatment groups: the IUA model (intrauterine perfusion of saline), Interceed therapy (intrauterine placement of Interceed), BMSCs therapy (intrauterine perfusion of BMSCs), BMSCs + Interceed therapy (intrauterine placement of BMSCs + Interceed), and a control group (intrauterine perfusion of saline).

High imperforate transverse vaginal septum with vaginal cicatrisation: a surgical tribulation.

BMJ Case Rep

March 2024

OBGYN, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, Karnataka, India

Article Synopsis
  • A young girl with menstrual issues and pelvic pain was initially thought to have an imperforate hymen but was later diagnosed with a complex condition involving blocked menstruation due to anatomical abnormalities revealed by MRI.
  • After two unsuccessful surgeries, she underwent a successful laparoscopic procedure that included draining fluid accumulation, removing a vaginal septum, and reconstructing the vagina using an absorbable graft.
  • The surgery went well, and effective preoperative planning and techniques, such as a vaginal-assisted laparoscopic approach, were key to the positive outcome, making recovery easier for the patient.

Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Biology, Brigham & Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts.

Article Synopsis
  • A novel high-precision technique for robotic excision of uterine isthmocele is introduced, utilizing carbon dioxide laser fiber under hysteroscopic and near-infrared guidance.
  • The case involves a 36-year-old woman with secondary infertility due to a large cesarean scar defect identified via imaging, leading to a decision for surgical intervention.
  • The surgical procedure included the use of laser dissection combined with near-infrared technology for enhanced visualization, ultimately leading to the successful removal of the isthmocele.
