Published: September 2011

This is a cross-sectional quantitative study quantitative held in the rooming area of a medium-sized hospital in the hinterlands of Paraná, Brazil. 40 mothers over 18 years participated in the study. The study aimed to examine what this population knows about the purpose and importance of completing the "Guthrie test" and also to characterize these mothers socio-demographically. The data were collected in May and June 2010 through a semi-structured questionnaire developed and implemented by the researchers themselves. The purpose of neonatal screening was known by 65% (n = 26) of the participants. The majority of them knew the purpose and knew about the importance of completing the "Guthrie test", a fact which shows the importance of the orientations these mothers must have on this subject even before the birth of the baby, still focusing on prenatal care, and emphasizing the importance of the role of nurses in this context.

Background: People with severe mental illness (SMI) are at increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), and initiatives for CVD risk factor screening in the UK have not reduced disparities.

Objectives: To describe the annual screening prevalence for CVD risk factors in people with SMI from April 2000 to March 2018, and to identify factors associated with receiving no screening and regular screening.

Methods: We identified adults with a diagnosis of SMI (schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or 'other psychosis') from UK primary care records in Clinical Practice Research Datalink.

Context: Digital exposure notification (EN) systems were widely used to supplement public health case investigations and contact tracing during the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. In Washington State, the state Department of Health (DOH) implemented one such system, WA Notify, which generated ENs based on smartphone Bluetooth proximity detection. However, the privacy preserving measures of this technology prevented collection of information on how users responded after seeing an EN on their device.

Background: Low-income pregnant patients are at high risk of postpartum depression (PPD). Mothers and Babies (MB) is a cognitive behavioral therapy-based program that prevents up to 50% of de novo PPD when provided in person to low-income Spanish- and English-speaking people who are pregnant without depression. MB is limited by the need for trained personnel to support it.
